Mechanical Engineer – Manufacturing Support

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Mechanical Engineer – Manufacturing Support to lead process optimization, problem-solving, and technical coordination for our mechanical manufacturing operations. This role plays a vital part in improving productivity, ensuring high-quality output, driving lean initiatives, and supporting cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in fabrication, machining, and assembly, and is capable of leading process improvement projects across multiple product lines or production cells.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Leadership in Production Support

  • Provide expert-level support to resolve complex mechanical and process issues on the shop floor.

  • Guide root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term corrective/preventive actions.

  • Support design-for-manufacturing (DFM) feedback during new product introductions (NPI).

2. Process Design & Optimization

  • Lead the development and refinement of manufacturing processes for structural components, assemblies, and fabricated parts.

  • Define process parameters, workflows, and routing based on best practices and equipment capability.

  • Drive initiatives to reduce cycle time, improve quality, and enhance machine and operator efficiency.

3. Documentation & Standards Compliance

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation: SOPs, PFMEAs, control plans, work instructions, and change records.

  • Ensure compliance with ISO, ASME, or customer-specific manufacturing standards.

  • Own process validation activities and documentation for critical operations.

4. Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing

  • Lead lean manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and Six Sigma projects across production areas.

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in structured problem-solving and process improvement methodologies.

  • Monitor production KPIs and use data analytics to drive decisions.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Liaise with design, quality, maintenance, and supply chain teams to ensure manufacturability and smooth operations.

  • Coordinate ECNs (Engineering Change Notices) and support product and process transitions.

  • Collaborate with vendors on tooling, fixtures, and external process capabilities.


Qualifications:

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing or production engineering.

  • Strong knowledge of fabrication, welding, machining, and mechanical assembly processes.

  • Proficient in interpreting complex engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D CAD models.

  • Hands-on experience with lean tools, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis techniques.

  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills.

  • Experience with ERP systems, CAD (SolidWorks/AutoCAD), and MS Office.

Work Environment:

  • Predominantly shop-floor-based with close interaction with production and quality teams.

  • Involves working in fabrication, machining, and mechanical assembly areas.

  • Requires adherence to safety standards and regular use of PPE.
