We are seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of valve design projects from concept through production, focusing on mechanical performance, manufacturability, and long-term durability in water treatment and distribution systems. This role requires solid design experience, proficiency with industry standards, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Valve Design & Engineering
Design and develop valve components including housings, seals, stems, bonnets, and actuation interfaces for butterfly, gate, ball, and check valves.
Perform engineering calculations for pressure ratings, flow coefficients (Cv), mechanical stress, and material compatibility.
Apply DFM/DFA principles to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing and assembly.
CAD Modeling & Drawing Control
Create 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent software.
Maintain drawing revision control, bill of materials (BOMs), and configuration management systems.
Work with document control and quality teams to ensure drawing packages meet internal and regulatory standards.
Testing & Validation
Support or lead prototype development, testing, and validation processes including hydrostatic testing, torque/load testing, and thermal cycling.
Analyze test data and failure modes to drive design improvements.
Assist in root cause analysis (RCA) for field issues and corrective design measures.
Standards & Compliance
Ensure valve designs meet AWWA, ASME, ISO, and customer specifications.
Prepare and maintain engineering reports, design calculations, and compliance documentation.
Participate in internal and external audits related to product design.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with manufacturing, procurement, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless transition from design to production.
Provide technical support to customers, service teams, and project managers as needed.
Mentor junior engineers or drafters, and participate in design reviews and product planning meetings.
Mechanical design and development of valves for water/wastewater treatment applications
Application of industry standards and performance criteria
Testing, validation, and reliability engineering
Design for manufacturability and cross-functional integration
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Additional certification in pressure systems or valve design (preferred)
Experience:
3–6 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in valve or pressure system product lines
Experience designing mechanical assemblies for water, wastewater, or fluid systems
Skills:
Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar), FEA tools, and PLM systems
Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, sealing systems, materials selection, and mechanical loads
Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, coating, and testing
Strong problem-solving skills, technical writing ability, and attention to detail
