We are seeking an experienced and self-driven Mechanical Design Engineer – Fabrication (Mid-Level) to lead mechanical design projects, develop fabrication-ready drawings, and contribute to process improvement and cost optimization. This role involves close collaboration with fabrication, production, and quality teams to ensure that designs are accurate, feasible, and aligned with manufacturing capabilities.
Develop detailed 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD).
Create and manage technical documentation including BOMs, GA drawings, assembly instructions, and revision logs.
Review project specifications and translate customer requirements into practical, manufacturable designs.
Optimize designs for fabrication processes such as welding, laser cutting, CNC machining, bending, and assembly.
Conduct tolerance analysis and apply GD&T principles for fit, function, and ease of manufacturing.
Support cross-functional teams during production to resolve design-related issues.
Coordinate with suppliers, vendors, and fabricators for material selection and manufacturability.
Participate in design reviews, value engineering initiatives, and cost-saving projects.
Update and maintain drawing control systems and ensure all designs follow internal and industry standards.
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements in design practices.
Design for Fabrication (DFF): Strong understanding of fabrication methods and ability to design accordingly.
CAD Proficiency: Advanced skills in 3D modeling and 2D detailing, especially for sheet metal, structural assemblies, brackets, and frames.
GD&T & Tolerance Stack-up: Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing for accurate production.
Cost & Material Efficiency: Focus on reducing material usage, simplifying fabrication, and minimizing waste.
Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot design challenges during production and offer timely solutions.
Project Ownership: Handle medium-scale projects independently and deliver on quality, timeline, and documentation.
Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate effectively with production, QA/QC, procurement, and suppliers.
Industry Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with ASME, ISO, AWS, and other relevant mechanical and fabrication standards.
Quality & Safety Awareness: Integrate quality checks and safety considerations into the design process.
