Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and proactive Mid-Level Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems, components, and assemblies from concept through production. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, perform detailed design calculations, and ensure that designs meet technical, functional, and cost specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience with CAD design, a strong understanding of mechanical principles, and a desire to contribute to innovative product development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mechanical Design & Development: Create and refine detailed mechanical designs for systems and components, ensuring that designs meet performance, safety, and cost specifications.
- CAD Modeling & Prototyping: Develop 3D CAD models and detailed drawings of mechanical parts and assemblies using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD). Ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet project timelines.
- Engineering Analysis: Perform engineering calculations, stress analysis, and simulations to validate design concepts. Utilize FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools to assess the structural integrity and performance of designs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing, quality, and other engineering teams to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, assembly, and cost-efficiency.
- Design Validation & Testing: Lead or participate in prototype testing, collect feedback, and make design modifications as needed to meet functional and performance goals.
- Design Documentation: Prepare and maintain clear and accurate technical documentation, including design specifications, BOMs (Bill of Materials), technical reports, and user manuals.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices, design standards, and process improvements to enhance the efficiency and quality of design work.
- Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and design team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Project Management Support: Assist in managing design projects, track progress, and ensure that designs are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
Key Focus Areas:
- Mechanical System Design & Innovation: Lead the design process for mechanical systems and components, ensuring alignment with project objectives and product requirements.
- Collaboration & Cross-Functional Teams: Work effectively with multiple teams to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, assembly, and cost efficiency.
- Engineering Analysis & Testing: Utilize engineering analysis tools to validate and optimize designs before production, ensuring high-quality results.
- Process Improvement & Mentorship: Contribute to ongoing process improvement efforts and mentor junior engineers in design best practices.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, including experience with CAD modeling, engineering analysis, and product development.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD). Strong understanding of mechanical principles, material properties, and manufacturing processes. Experience with FEA tools is a plus.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to perform engineering analysis, calculations, and simulations to validate designs.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively document designs and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve design challenges, optimizing for functionality, cost, and manufacturability.
- Team Player: Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Attention to Detail: High attention to detail in creating accurate models, technical documentation, and designs that meet specifications.
Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):
- Professional Engineer (PE) License (preferred, or in progress).
- SolidWorks Certification or similar CAD software certification.
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
- FEA Certification or relevant software training.
