We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Assembly Technician with a strong background in marine systems assembly and integration. This role requires a high degree of technical proficiency, leadership ability, and attention to detail. The technician will lead complex assembly projects, ensure compliance with quality and safety standards, and provide mentorship to junior staff. Experience in marine propulsion, hydraulic systems, and mechanical fitting is essential.
Lead and perform mechanical assembly of complex marine systems including propulsion units, engines, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, steering gear, and auxiliary systems.
Interpret and validate detailed mechanical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
Oversee and execute precision alignment, fitting, torquing, and system integration tasks.
Conduct functional testing, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of assembled systems.
Ensure compliance with marine industry standards (IMO, ABS, DNV, etc.) and internal quality protocols.
Coordinate with engineering, QA/QC, and project teams to resolve technical issues and implement design changes.
Train and mentor junior and mid-level technicians, sharing best practices and technical knowledge.
Lead safety initiatives on the shop floor and ensure adherence to workplace safety regulations.
Maintain detailed documentation of assembly work, test results, and compliance records.
Participate in audits, inspections, and process improvement initiatives.
Leadership in Complex Assembly: Lead high-complexity builds and serve as a subject matter expert in marine mechanical systems.
Quality & Compliance Oversight: Ensure all assembly and test work meets international marine certification standards.
Technical Problem Solving: Quickly diagnose and resolve mechanical or fitment issues with minimal supervision.
Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, safety, and assembly quality.
Mentoring & Supervision: Guide less experienced technicians and support team development.
Diploma, Associate Degree, or equivalent technical training in Mechanical/Marine Engineering.
5–8 years of hands-on mechanical assembly experience in a marine, shipbuilding, or offshore equipment environment.
Deep understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems, marine equipment, and precision assembly techniques.
Proficient in using measurement instruments, alignment tools, and mechanical test equipment.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Six Sigma principles (preferred).
Marine-specific safety training (e.g., STCW, HAZMAT, Confined Space).
Crane or rigging certification (if applicable).
OEM equipment certifications (e.g., propulsion systems, engines, thrusters).
