Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Marine Mechanical Engineer supports the design, analysis, and integration of valve and fluid handling systems used in marine vessels and offshore platforms. Working under senior engineers, this role involves assisting with technical drawings, calculations, material selection, and ensuring compliance with marine industry standards such as ABS and USCG.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and specification of valves, piping, pumps, and fluid systems for marine applications.

  • Support preparation and review of mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and technical documentation.

  • Perform basic engineering calculations related to fluid flow, pressure drop, and valve sizing under supervision.

  • Coordinate with procurement and manufacturing teams to ensure material compliance and specifications are met.

  • Assist in troubleshooting valve and fluid system issues during assembly, testing, and commissioning phases.

  • Participate in the review of test procedures, including hydrostatic and functional testing of valve systems.

  • Ensure designs and documentation comply with applicable classification society rules (ABS, USCG) and industry standards.

  • Support senior engineers in preparing reports, technical submittals, and regulatory compliance documentation.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including naval architects, electrical engineers, and QA personnel.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Valve & Fluid System Design: Assist in developing and reviewing designs for marine valves and associated piping systems.

  • Technical Documentation: Support accurate and compliant engineering drawings and calculation packages.

  • Testing & Commissioning Support: Aid in preparing test plans and resolving system integration challenges.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to marine codes and standards during design and execution.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related technical field.

  • 0–2 years of experience in marine mechanical systems, fluid dynamics, or related engineering discipline (internship/co-op experience preferred).

  • Basic knowledge of valve types, fluid flow principles, and piping system components.

  • Familiarity with CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and engineering software for calculations.

  • Understanding of marine classification societies’ standards (ABS, USCG) is an advantage.
