Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Mid-Level Marine Fabrication Engineer plays a key role in the planning, coordination, and execution of structural and piping fabrication tasks for marine vessels and offshore platforms. This position is responsible for translating engineering designs into fabrication-ready documentation, resolving shop floor issues, and ensuring compliance with classification standards and fabrication best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and review fabrication drawings for structural elements (e.g., hull blocks, decks, bulkheads) and marine piping systems (fuel, ballast, cooling, bilge, etc.).

  • Generate material take-offs, cutting lists, weld maps, and pipe spool drawings for production use.

  • Coordinate with design, planning, and production teams to ensure smooth handover of engineering packages and work instructions.

  • Support field engineering and respond to technical queries (TQ/RFI) from the shop floor and subcontractors.

  • Perform fit-up checks, alignment validations, and clash detection using 3D models and layout drawings.

  • Assist in the development and review of welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and installation methods.

  • Ensure adherence to standards such as ABS, DNV, ASME B31.3, AWS D1.1, and other client or regulatory specifications.

  • Conduct technical evaluations of fabrication non-conformances, support root cause analysis, and implement corrective measures.

  • Participate in factory acceptance tests (FATs), hydrostatic/pressure testing, and inspections of fabricated systems.

  • Provide technical input to planning, procurement, QA/QC, and commissioning teams throughout the fabrication lifecycle.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Naval Architecture.

  • 3–6 years of relevant experience in marine or offshore fabrication engineering.

  • Proficient in CAD and 3D modeling software (AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, AVEVA, SolidWorks, etc.).

  • Sound knowledge of structural fabrication, pipe routing, material selection, and marine system integration.

  • Familiarity with weld symbols, shop practices, pressure testing, and piping system functionality.

  • Ability to interpret and generate general arrangement (GA), P&ID, isometric, and structural drawings.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate between technical and production teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to shipyard operations or offshore EPC environments.

  • Understanding of modular construction and pre-outfitting strategies.

  • Training in QA/QC systems, welding inspection, or dimensional control.

  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and fabrication tracking software.

Working Conditions:

  • Combination of office and fabrication/shipyard environment.

  • Must be able to conduct site visits and inspections with PPE as required.

  • May involve extended working hours during peak project phases or testing windows.
