Manager – HVAC and Thermal Valve Systems

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Manager – HVAC and Thermal Valve Systems is responsible for leading the design, development, validation, and integration of valve systems used in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and vehicle thermal management platforms. This includes managing key components such as coolant control valves, refrigerant expansion valves, heater control valves, bypass valves, and electronic thermal actuators.

The role ensures that valve components meet system performance, durability, and regulatory standards while enabling energy-efficient and occupant-optimized HVAC performance. The manager coordinates cross-functionally with design, simulation, testing, controls, purchasing, and manufacturing teams.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Product Development & Lifecycle Management

  • Lead the end-to-end engineering development of HVAC and thermal control valves across multiple vehicle programs.

  • Oversee system requirements definition, design reviews, and performance validation plans for valve subsystems.

  • Drive adoption of smart or electronic valve solutions for precision thermal control in next-generation platforms.

2. System Integration & Performance

  • Ensure integration of valves into HVAC modules, battery thermal systems, engine cooling loops, and cabin climate control systems.

  • Validate valve behavior under various flow, pressure, and temperature conditions using bench and vehicle-level tests.

  • Coordinate with software/control teams to align actuator functionality with HVAC algorithms and diagnostic strategies.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Interface with suppliers for design feasibility, prototyping, and quality planning.

  • Support sourcing decisions with cost, manufacturability, and technical risk assessments.

  • Collaborate with vehicle architecture, powertrain cooling, and electrification teams to meet system-level thermal goals.

4. Testing, Validation & Compliance

  • Manage DVP&R execution for thermal valves, including durability, flow performance, leakage, vibration, and thermal cycling tests.

  • Ensure valves meet global regulatory and customer-specific standards (e.g., SAE, ISO, OEM-specific requirements).

  • Own root cause analysis and corrective action for test failures or field issues.

5. Team & Project Leadership

  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians supporting HVAC valve system development.

  • Allocate resources across multiple programs and support technical mentorship and skill development.

  • Champion process improvements, innovation initiatives, and digital simulation practices.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Coolant and Refrigerant Control Valves

  • Thermal System Optimization and HVAC Integration

  • Mechatronic Valve Components (Actuators, Sensors)

  • Energy Efficiency, Emissions, and Occupant Comfort

  • Design Validation, DVP&R, and Supplier Collaboration

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Thermal Engineering, or related field.

  • 8–12+ years of experience in HVAC systems, thermal management, or valve development (preferably automotive or aerospace).

  • Experience in valve design, thermal systems modeling, and system-level integration.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of HVAC architectures in ICE, hybrid, and EV platforms.

  • Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., GT-SUITE, AMESim), CAD (CATIA, Creo), and test automation systems.

  • Experience with thermal subsystems for batteries, cabins, and electronic components.

  • Strong leadership, program management, and supplier interface experience.
