We are looking for a hands-on and reliable Junior Maintenance Technician to support the inspection, servicing, and repair of shipboard valve systems across various marine platforms. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with a mechanical background and a willingness to work in marine environments, including onboard ships, dry docks, and repair facilities. The technician will assist in ensuring safe and efficient valve operation throughout ship fluid systems such as ballast, fuel, bilge, fire main, and cooling.
Valve Inspection & Troubleshooting: Assist in routine checks of valve condition, leak detection, mechanical wear, and functionality within critical shipboard systems.
Preventive Maintenance: Support scheduled maintenance procedures such as lubrication, seal replacement, actuator checks, and alignment verification.
Mechanical Repairs & Servicing: Help perform disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and reinstallation of valves, including gate, globe, check, butterfly, and ball valves.
Support for Valve Testing: Participate in hydrostatic pressure tests, function checks, and post-repair validation under the supervision of senior technicians.
Documentation & Compliance: Accurately record maintenance activities, component status, and follow safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., ABS, IMO).
Tool & Equipment Handling: Maintain proper care of hand tools, torque wrenches, lifting devices, and maintenance kits used in valve repair tasks.
Assist in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of valves in systems such as fuel, seawater cooling, bilge, ballast, and firefighting.
Follow maintenance checklists and standard operating procedures provided by supervisors.
Help in identifying worn parts and assist in replacements as directed.
Maintain cleanliness and safety of work areas onboard or in drydock.
Transport tools and equipment to work sites and assist with set-up/tear-down.
Learn to interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and piping schematics.
Communicate progress and issues clearly to senior staff and complete job documentation.
High school diploma or technical/vocational certification in Mechanical, Marine Engineering, or related field.
0–2 years of relevant mechanical maintenance experience (marine or industrial setting preferred).
Basic understanding of mechanical components, piping, and valve types.
Familiarity with hand tools, mechanical fasteners, and safety protocols.
Willingness to learn and work in confined shipboard spaces and variable conditions.
Physically fit and able to lift heavy components with assistance and PPE.
Good teamwork, communication, and attention to detail.
Exposure to shipboard systems, marine equipment, or shipyard environments.
Experience working with valves, flanges, or fluid system components.
Basic knowledge of classification standards (ABS, DNV, USCG) and safety compliance.
Ability to interpret basic technical drawings or schematics.
Interest in long-term development within marine mechanical maintenance.
