The Junior Maintenance Technician – Mechanical Systems supports the upkeep and efficient functioning of mechanical equipment, machinery, and utility systems. The role involves performing routine maintenance, assisting in breakdown repairs, and ensuring preventive maintenance schedules are followed under the guidance of senior technicians or supervisors.
Assist in scheduled preventive maintenance activities for pumps, motors, conveyors, gearboxes, compressors, etc.
Lubrication, tightening, cleaning, and visual checks of mechanical components
Maintain records of PM tasks performed
Respond to machine breakdowns under supervision
Help in identifying the mechanical root causes of failures
Replace worn-out components (belts, bearings, seals, etc.) as directed
Use hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment properly and safely
Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines
Wear PPE and comply with plant safety protocols during all tasks
Maintain maintenance checklists, daily activity logs, and spare usage records
Report issues, delays, or unusual observations to the maintenance lead
Assist in updating equipment maintenance history
Carry out assigned mechanical maintenance tasks on equipment and utility systems
Support machine alignment, part replacement, and lubrication schedules
Work under supervision during installation and testing of new machines
Keep the work area clean and follow 5S principles
Coordinate with production team to minimize downtime
ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Fitter / Maintenance Technology
0–2 years of experience in mechanical maintenance (internships and apprenticeships considered)
Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and industrial machinery
Familiar with mechanical drawings and maintenance tools
Understanding of alignment, lubrication, and component replacement
Basic troubleshooting mindset and willingness to learn
Team player with good observation and documentation habits
Exposure to utility equipment (pumps, compressors, chillers)
Familiarity with TPM or CMMS systems
Basic knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
Shop-floor and plant-based role with physical tasks
Requires climbing, lifting, and standing for extended periods
PPE and safety compliance mandatory
May require shift work or emergency call-ins
