The Junior Maintenance Technician – Fluid Systems and Valves supports the inspection, repair, and maintenance of fluid handling systems, including pumps, piping, and valves (manual, control, and automated). This entry-level role is ideal for individuals beginning a career in mechanical maintenance in industries such as food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, chemical processing, or manufacturing.
The technician works under the guidance of senior staff and plays a critical role in ensuring the operational integrity and safety of production equipment involving liquid, gas, and steam flow systems.
Assisting in Maintenance and Repair of Fluid Handling Systems
Valve Assembly, Cleaning, and Basic Troubleshooting
Routine Preventive Maintenance Activities
Compliance with Safety, Quality, and Documentation Protocols
Technical Skill Development and Equipment Familiarization
Assist with the disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly of piping systems, fittings, and pumps.
Support fluid leak inspections, gasket replacements, and torque checks under supervision.
Help with line isolation and drainage during repair or installation work.
Clean and inspect sanitary and industrial valves including ball, butterfly, diaphragm, and check valves.
Assist with installation and removal of valves across various sections of the plant.
Learn how to identify valve faults (e.g., leaks, sticking, corrosion) and perform minor repairs.
Follow PM schedules and procedures for valve lubrication, actuator checks, and system flushing.
Document basic inspection results and escalate unusual findings to supervisors.
Help prepare tools, parts, and documentation required for scheduled tasks.
Adhere to all site safety rules, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and PPE requirements.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring proper handling of chemicals and tools.
Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and company maintenance standards.
Participate in on-the-job training programs related to fluid mechanics, valves, and mechanical systems.
Read and interpret basic system drawings, valve diagrams, and maintenance manuals.
Build knowledge in valve types, material compatibility, and system behavior under pressure/flow.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical certification or vocational training in mechanical maintenance, plumbing, or fluid systems preferred.
0–2 years of mechanical or maintenance experience (internship/apprenticeship experience is acceptable).
Basic understanding of fluid flow principles (pressure, flow rate, head).
Familiarity with hand tools, torque wrenches, and mechanical fittings.
Exposure to valves, pumps, or pneumatic systems is a plus.
Willingness to learn through mentorship and training.
