The Senior Maintenance Technician is a subject matter expert in the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of aircraft Environmental Control System (ECS) components, including HVAC systems and Air Cycle Machines (ACMs). This role provides technical leadership, mentors junior technicians, and ensures the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. The technician works independently on complex systems and supports engineering and quality teams during investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead detailed inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of ACMs, refrigeration units, heat exchangers, valves, and related ECS components
Oversee and execute disassembly, root cause analysis, reassembly, and performance testing of ECS/HVAC components
Operate and calibrate specialized test equipment (test cells, airflow rigs, balancing machines) for ECS systems
Interpret engineering drawings, OEM maintenance manuals, and service bulletins to guide and document work
Ensure all work adheres to FAA, EASA, and OEM regulatory and safety standards
Support root cause investigations for recurring failures and provide recommendations for corrective actions
Mentor junior and mid-level technicians in proper maintenance practices and compliance procedures
Collaborate with engineering, quality assurance, and planning teams to resolve technical issues
Lead or assist in facility audits, quality reviews, and process improvement initiatives
Maintain accurate maintenance logs, part traceability, and compliance documentation

Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
Associate degree or technical diploma in Aircraft Maintenance, Aerospace Technology, or HVAC Systems (required)
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or advanced certifications is a plus
FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification (required or equivalent EASA Part-66 license)
Experience:
7+ years of experience in aircraft ECS/HVAC component maintenance and testing
Demonstrated expertise in repair and overhaul of ACMs and thermal management hardware
Experience working in FAA- or EASA-certified repair stations or MRO environments
Prior leadership or supervisory experience is a strong plus
Technical Skills:
Deep understanding of ECS functions, including air cycle refrigeration, mass flow, and thermal exchange principles
Proficient with testing, calibration, and balancing of ECS components and rotating machinery
Ability to interpret complex technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics
Skilled in maintenance documentation systems (e.g., AMOS, RAMCO, TRAX) and quality control tools
