The Junior Machining Technician supports the fabrication of precision aerospace structural and mechanical components using manual and CNC machining tools. Working under close supervision, the technician assists in setup, operation, and maintenance of machines while learning to interpret blueprints, follow process instructions, and inspect machined parts to meet strict aerospace tolerances and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with setup and operation of manual mills, lathes, and/or CNC machines to produce aerospace parts
Follow basic work instructions, setup sheets, and engineering drawings under the guidance of senior machinists
Load materials, measure stock, and help with tool changes and offsets
Perform basic machining operations such as drilling, tapping, facing, and deburring
Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure dimensional accuracy
Document operations and follow quality procedures and safety protocols
Maintain a clean and organized work area; assist with coolant and tool maintenance
Support continuous improvement by learning and applying lean practices and 5S principles
Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to understand specifications and resolve basic issues

Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
High school diploma or GED (required)
Completion of machining, manufacturing, or technical training program (preferred)
Experience:
0–2 years of machining or manufacturing experience (internship, shop coursework, or vocational exposure acceptable)
Exposure to aerospace or precision machining environments is a plus
Technical Skills:
Basic knowledge of machine shop equipment and tools
Understanding of mechanical drawings and tolerancing (intro to GD&T a plus)
Familiarity with inspection tools: calipers, micrometers, height gauges
Basic computer and math skills for machine operation and inspection logging
