Lubrication Technician – Bearings and Turbine Systems

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Mid-Level Lubrication Technician – Bearings and Turbine Systems is responsible for executing lubrication programs, conducting oil analysis, and supporting the reliability of rotating equipment such as turbines, pumps, compressors, and gearboxes. This role ensures optimal performance and longevity of mechanical assets by applying industry-standard lubrication techniques and monitoring lubricant condition. The technician also identifies early warning signs of equipment failure and contributes to preventive and predictive maintenance practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lubrication Task Execution:

    • Apply lubricants to bearings, couplings, turbine components, and other mechanical systems per OEM and schedule requirements.

    • Perform oil top-ups, grease applications, oil changes, and filter replacements with precision.

  • Oil Sampling & Analysis Support:

    • Collect routine and diagnostic oil samples from critical assets.

    • Perform basic onsite oil condition checks (e.g., color, water contamination) and coordinate with labs for full analysis.

  • Route Management & Scheduling:

    • Manage assigned lubrication routes using CMMS or manual logs.

    • Ensure completion of tasks in line with asset criticality and lubrication frequency.

  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting:

    • Observe and report any abnormalities in temperature, vibration, or noise during lubrication rounds.

    • Identify signs of lubricant degradation, contamination, or component wear.

  • Documentation & Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of lubrication activities, consumption, and equipment conditions.

    • Assist in preparing reports for reliability teams and recommending corrective actions.

  • Tool & Inventory Management:

    • Use lubrication tools and systems including oil transfer pumps, filter carts, grease guns, and breathers.

    • Maintain lubricant inventory and ensure proper storage and labeling of all lubricants.

  • Safety & Compliance:

    • Follow all safety, environmental, and contamination control protocols.

    • Support spill prevention, waste oil handling, and MSDS compliance.

  • Training & Mentorship:

    • Provide guidance to junior lubrication personnel or apprentices.

    • Stay updated on best practices and participate in reliability workshops or training sessions.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Lubrication Program Execution:
Deliver consistent and accurate lubrication to bearings and turbine systems per defined schedules and standards.

  2. Oil Health Monitoring:
Conduct oil sampling, basic diagnostics, and support advanced analysis to assess equipment condition.

  3. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance:
Identify signs of mechanical stress or early failure through lubricant inspection and behavior.

  4. Data-Driven Reliability:
Contribute to reliability efforts by maintaining high-quality documentation and sharing condition reports.

  5. Inventory & Contamination Control:
Manage lubricant cleanliness, proper storage, and contamination prevention practices.

  6. Safety & Technical Skill Development:
Operate with high safety awareness and continue developing technical skills in lubrication systems and turbine equipment care.

Qualifications:

  • ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Industrial Maintenance, or equivalent.

  • 3–5 years of experience in lubrication or mechanical maintenance of rotating machinery.

  • Working knowledge of lubrication fundamentals, types of lubricants, and rotating equipment components.

  • Experience with turbine systems (steam, gas, or hydro) is an advantage.

  • Familiarity with oil analysis techniques, CMMS, and basic vibration or thermal monitoring tools.

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and safety-first mindset.
