Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Mid-Level Lubrication Technician to perform and optimize lubrication tasks for plant equipment to improve asset reliability and minimize unplanned downtime. This role involves independently executing lubrication routes, conducting oil sampling, monitoring lubricant condition, and supporting contamination control practices. The ideal candidate will have experience working with rotating equipment and preventive maintenance programs in an industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled lubrication tasks including oiling, greasing, and oil changes for pumps, motors, bearings, gearboxes, compressors, fans, and conveyors.

  • Execute lubrication routes using CMMS and ensure adherence to equipment-specific lubrication standards.

  • Conduct oil sampling, analysis support, and condition monitoring to identify early signs of degradation or contamination.

  • Maintain proper handling and storage of lubricants, including filtration, labeling, and inventory tracking.

  • Inspect seals, breathers, sight glasses, and desiccant breathers as part of routine checks.

  • Maintain detailed lubrication records, inspection checklists, and service logs.

  • Communicate abnormalities such as leaks, vibration, overheating, or unusual noises to the maintenance team for escalation.

  • Assist in training junior lubrication personnel and sharing best practices for lubrication reliability.

  • Follow all safety, environmental, and cleanliness standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and chemical handling protocols.

  • Support reliability engineers in root cause analysis (RCA) and improvement initiatives for rotating equipment.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Preventive Lubrication Execution

    • Deliver timely and accurate lubrication services to prevent wear, corrosion, and failure in rotating equipment.

  2. Lubricant Condition Monitoring

    • Collect and assess lubricant samples; assist in interpreting oil analysis reports and taking corrective action.

  3. Contamination Control & Clean Practices

    • Apply clean lubrication techniques, including the use of filtration, breathers, and color-coded handling systems.

  4. CMMS & Documentation

    • Utilize CMMS tools for route tracking, documentation, and updating lubrication schedules.

  5. Technical Support & Collaboration

    • Provide input to reliability or maintenance engineering teams regarding recurring issues or improvement opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma or certification in mechanical maintenance or lubrication technology preferred.

  • 2–4 years of experience in equipment lubrication, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing, or processing environment.

  • Solid knowledge of lubrication systems, practices, and rotating equipment.

  • Familiarity with oil sampling procedures, grease application, and lube chart interpretation.

  • Basic understanding of bearing failures, wear mechanisms, and lubricant selection.

  • Competent in the use of lubrication tools (grease guns, sampling kits, filter carts) and basic mechanical tools.

  • Comfortable using CMMS platforms for task tracking and maintenance documentation.

Work Environment:

  • Industrial plant setting with exposure to machinery, lubricants, noise, and varying temperatures.

  • Requires physical activity such as walking routes, climbing, crouching, lifting, and working in confined spaces.

  • May include rotating shifts, weekend work, and emergency maintenance support.
