The Senior Loop Check and Control Technician plays a critical role in leading and executing loop checks and control system verification during plant commissioning, system upgrades, or routine instrumentation QA/QC. This role involves comprehensive troubleshooting, documentation, coordination with engineering teams, and ensuring all control loops function correctly and safely in accordance with design specifications, standards, and regulatory compliance.
Advanced Loop Check Execution
Lead and perform complex loop checks for analog and digital signals across PLC/DCS systems.
Validate control logic, safety interlocks, and alarm systems for all process-critical loops.
Troubleshooting and Technical Leadership
Diagnose and resolve complex loop faults including miswiring, signal drop, grounding issues, and configuration mismatches.
Coordinate technical solutions with engineering, QA/QC, and control system integrators.
Documentation and QA/QC Compliance
Review and finalize loop test documentation, redline drawings, and prepare handover packs.
Ensure loop testing follows project validation protocols, especially in GMP, FDA, or ISO-regulated environments.
Instrumentation & Control Systems Expertise
Deep working knowledge of various field devices (flow, pressure, temperature, level, control valves, positioners).
Strong understanding of PLC, DCS, SCADA, and relevant communication protocols (HART, Modbus, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus).
Mentorship and Team Oversight
Train and guide junior and mid-level technicians in testing procedures, safe work practices, and troubleshooting methods.
Allocate loop check tasks and monitor progress across zones or units.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Interface with commissioning, automation, electrical, and validation teams to align loop check activities with overall project timelines.
Support FAT/SAT and pre-startup verification.
Safety & Risk Mitigation
Enforce safety procedures during testing in hazardous areas or energized panels.
Participate in JSA (Job Safety Analysis) and pre-task briefings.
Education:
Diploma or Degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical, or related engineering discipline.
Experience:
6–10+ years in loop checking, instrumentation commissioning, or process automation, preferably in pharma, biotech, oil & gas, or F&B sectors.
Skills & Tools:
Expert in using multimeters, loop calibrators, communicators (e.g., HART), and software tools for PLC/DCS configuration.
Proficient in reading and interpreting P&IDs, loop diagrams, control logic, and as-built documents.
