The Lead Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Engineer is responsible for the design, integration, and performance optimization of control systems and field instrumentation for process and discrete manufacturing environments. This role provides technical leadership in I&C system design, PLC/DCS programming, instrumentation specification, and automation support to ensure plant reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
Control System Design – Develop and implement control system architectures for manufacturing lines and process equipment.
Instrumentation Specification & Integration – Select, configure, and integrate field instruments for measurement and control (pressure, temperature, flow, level, proximity, etc.).
Automation Strategy – Oversee PLC/DCS programming, HMI/SCADA interface design, and system diagnostics for continuous and batch processes.
Project Execution & Support – Lead automation and instrumentation scopes in capital projects, upgrades, and commissioning activities.
Compliance & Documentation – Ensure all I&C systems comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (e.g., NEC, ISA, IEC).
Lead I&C engineering design across manufacturing systems, including control panel design, instrument loop drawings, and cable schedules.
Develop PLC logic and HMI screens for process control and operator interface.
Coordinate loop checking, system startup, and commissioning activities.
Manage third-party vendors and system integrators for control system integration and FAT/SAT execution.
Troubleshoot complex control and instrumentation issues affecting process reliability or product quality.
Support maintenance teams with technical guidance, upgrades, and system optimization initiatives.
Maintain and update control system documentation, I/O lists, and calibration schedules.
Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics, or Control Systems Engineering.
8–10+ years of experience in I&C engineering in process industries (e.g., chemical, food & beverage, pharmaceuticals) or discrete manufacturing (e.g., automotive, packaging, electronics).
Hands-on experience with major PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider) and DCS systems (Honeywell, Emerson, ABB).
Familiar with international standards (ISA, IEC, NFPA/NEC) and safety systems (SIL-rated components, interlock logic).
Strong technical expertise in instrumentation design and process control.
Proficient in PLC/DCS programming, SCADA/HMI development, and system integration.
Effective team leadership and project coordination abilities.
Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
Strong communication and technical documentation skills.
