Job Title: Interior Mechanisms Engineer

Job Summary: 

We are looking for a highly experienced and innovative Senior Interior Mechanisms Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and optimization of complex interior mechanical systems, including seating, door mechanisms, and other movable interior components. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that all designs meet the highest standards of performance, safety, quality, and manufacturability. Your expertise will drive product innovation and contribute to the overall success of the engineering department. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to take on a leadership role and have a significant impact on the development of cutting-edge interior systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership in Design & Development: Lead the design and development of advanced interior mechanical systems, including seating mechanisms, door systems, and other interior components. Create high-level design concepts and take ownership of the design process from concept through to production.
  • Strategic Innovation & Problem Solving: Drive innovation within the team, ensuring that new designs incorporate cutting-edge technology, cost-effective solutions, and industry-leading practices. Solve complex technical challenges and provide innovative solutions to improve functionality, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Prototyping, Testing & Validation: Oversee and manage the prototyping and testing processes, ensuring that interior mechanisms meet or exceed performance standards. Analyze testing results and make informed decisions regarding design improvements, material selection, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Material Selection & Analysis: Select and analyze materials to meet the mechanical, safety, and environmental requirements of interior systems. Work closely with suppliers to evaluate new materials and ensure optimal material selection for each application.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with senior leadership, design teams, manufacturing, quality assurance, and other departments to ensure the seamless integration of interior mechanisms into final product designs. Provide expert guidance and technical leadership across teams.
  • Project Management & Mentorship: Manage large-scale, complex projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to specification. Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, providing leadership and technical training to foster growth and development within the team.
  • Performance Optimization: Lead efforts to continuously optimize interior mechanisms for performance, cost, and manufacturability. Implement design changes that improve efficiency, reduce production costs, and enhance the customer experience.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Ensure all designs comply with safety standards, industry regulations, and quality requirements. Take responsibility for ensuring that all mechanical systems meet internal and external compliance standards.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Lead the creation of detailed documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and design revisions. Provide regular status updates to senior management and key stakeholders on project progress, challenges, and solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with the latest advancements in interior mechanisms design and mechanical engineering best practices. Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives within the design, testing, and production processes.

  • Innovation & Technical Leadership: Drive innovation in the development of mechanical systems by introducing new technologies, improving design efficiency, and solving complex engineering challenges.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration: Ensure close collaboration with other departments to ensure designs are seamlessly integrated into larger product designs and meet all functional and production requirements.
  • Project Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and manage complex projects, while mentoring and developing junior engineers and fostering a culture of excellence within the team.
  • Optimization & Cost Reduction: Implement design optimizations and process improvements that enhance product performance while reducing costs.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, with a strong focus on interior mechanisms or related product areas. At least 3-5 years in a senior engineering or leadership role, with demonstrated success in leading complex projects.
  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD) for designing and modeling interior mechanisms. Deep understanding of mechanical systems, materials, manufacturing processes, and product development.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Proven ability to lead teams, manage large-scale projects, and mentor junior engineers. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Exceptional ability to analyze complex mechanical problems, provide innovative solutions, and make data-driven decisions to optimize designs and processes.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, allocate resources, and meet deadlines. Experience with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of relevant safety standards, regulations (e.g., ISO, ASTM), and compliance requirements for mechanical systems, particularly in the automotive or related industries.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that all designs are optimized for performance, safety, and manufacturability.

Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):

  • Advanced CAD certifications (e.g., SolidWorks Professional or equivalent).
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certifications.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Knowledge of specific industry standards or certifications (e.g., ISO, ASTM) is a plus.
