Job Title: Interior Mechanisms Engineer

Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Mid-Level Interior Mechanisms Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of mechanical systems for interior components, such as seat mechanisms, door systems, and other movable interior elements. You will work with a cross-functional team to ensure that all designs meet performance, safety, and aesthetic requirements. This position offers an opportunity for growth and hands-on involvement in delivering innovative solutions that enhance product functionality and user experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Development: Lead the design and development of interior mechanical components, including seating systems, door mechanisms, and adjustable interior parts. Use CAD software to create detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and assembly instructions.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Manage and support the prototyping and testing processes for new interior mechanisms. Work closely with the testing team to validate designs, perform simulations, and conduct hands-on testing to assess the functionality and durability of components.
  • Optimization & Refinement: Analyze and refine existing designs to improve performance, reduce costs, and enhance reliability. Identify and implement improvements to enhance manufacturability, ease of assembly, and overall product quality.
  • Material Selection & Analysis: Select and evaluate materials that meet the mechanical and environmental requirements of interior systems. Conduct material testing and collaborate with suppliers to ensure the best material choices for durability, cost-effectiveness, and performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with engineering, design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to ensure the integration of interior mechanisms into final product designs. Address and resolve design or production challenges, ensuring a smooth transition from concept to production.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are allocated effectively. Coordinate with other teams and stakeholders to ensure project milestones are achieved.
  • Technical Support & Mentorship: Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support the development of best practices. Assist in troubleshooting design issues, manufacturing challenges, and performance problems.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of design changes, testing results, and validation reports. Present design updates and technical findings to senior engineers and stakeholders.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure designs comply with relevant safety standards, industry regulations, and quality requirements. Integrate compliance considerations into all phases of design and development.

  • Interior Mechanisms Design: Lead the development and optimization of mechanical systems for interior components, ensuring functionality, performance, and reliability.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Oversee the prototyping and validation processes to ensure designs meet technical specifications and quality standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to seamlessly integrate interior mechanisms into products.
  • Optimization & Innovation: Continuously improve product designs, materials, and manufacturing processes to achieve operational excellence and innovation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably with a focus on interior mechanisms or related product areas. Experience with prototyping and testing is highly valued.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD) for creating detailed mechanical designs. Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues, from design to production. Experience in design optimization and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present technical information to both engineering and non-engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Experience in managing design projects, including meeting deadlines, allocating resources, and coordinating across departments.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail in all phases of the design, development, and testing process to ensure quality and reliability.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work well within a team, collaborate with other engineers, and provide guidance to junior staff.

Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):

  • Certification in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks Professional or equivalent).
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
  • Knowledge of quality standards such as ISO, ASTM, or relevant industry certifications.
