The Supervisor – Instrument Lab Technicians leads a team responsible for maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and ensuring the compliance of laboratory instrumentation. The role involves planning and oversight of daily technician activities, ensuring adherence to quality and regulatory standards, and acting as the primary liaison between technical staff and laboratory leadership.
Team Supervision & Task Allocation
Assign daily tasks to technicians based on lab priorities and maintenance schedules.
Monitor team performance and ensure timely completion of calibrations and repairs.
Calibration & Maintenance Oversight
Supervise execution of preventive maintenance and calibration routines for a wide range of lab instruments (HPLC, GC, TOC, UV-Vis, balances, pH meters, etc.).
Approve and review calibration logs, deviation reports, and maintenance documentation.
Compliance & Regulatory Readiness
Ensure all instrumentation work complies with applicable standards (GMP, GLP, ISO).
Lead preparations for internal and external audits (e.g., FDA, ISO inspections).
Troubleshooting & Technical Escalations
Serve as a point of escalation for complex equipment issues and repairs.
Coordinate with OEMs or service vendors when required.
SOP Development & Continuous Improvement
Review, update, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures related to instrumentation.
Drive improvements in maintenance practices, documentation, and lab support efficiency.
Training & Development
Train and mentor junior and mid-level technicians in best practices, safety, and equipment handling.
Evaluate team competencies and recommend further training or certification.
Inventory & Budget Oversight
Oversee inventory management of tools, standards, and spare parts.
Collaborate with procurement for vendor contracts, quotes, and budget planning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Interface with QA, R&D, Validation, IT, and Lab Management to support operations and ensure alignment on equipment readiness.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Instrumentation, Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or related technical field.
Experience:
6+ years of relevant experience in lab instrumentation, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
Skills:
Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
Deep understanding of calibration standards, regulatory compliance, and lab equipment lifecycle.
Proficiency in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is a plus.
