The Senior Instrument Lab Technician is responsible for ensuring the operational reliability, calibration, and regulatory compliance of laboratory instruments and systems. This role involves advanced troubleshooting, execution of preventive maintenance programs, coordination with vendors, and mentoring of junior technicians. The senior technician plays a critical role in supporting accurate lab results and uninterrupted lab workflows.
Advanced Instrument Calibration & Maintenance
Perform and document calibration, verification, and preventive maintenance of advanced lab equipment (e.g., HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, TOC analyzers, automated sample handlers).
Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for instrument failures.
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure adherence to GMP, GLP, ISO, and regulatory compliance in all instrument-related activities.
Maintain complete and accurate maintenance/calibration logs, SOP adherence, and deviation records.
Instrumentation Lifecycle Management
Support the selection, installation, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and decommissioning of laboratory instruments.
Maintain calibration schedules and oversee equipment validation status.
Vendor & External Calibration Coordination
Liaise with third-party calibration service providers and OEMs for specialized maintenance and troubleshooting.
Review service reports and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Training & Supervision
Mentor junior technicians and support onboarding of new hires in instrument operation and maintenance practices.
Conduct on-the-job training on lab safety, SOPs, and equipment handling.
Cross-functional Support & Collaboration
Work closely with QA/QC, R&D, and analytical teams to support operational readiness.
Coordinate with IT/Automation for software-related instrument issues.
Audit Readiness & Continuous Improvement
Prepare for internal and external audits with complete documentation and equipment readiness.
Identify improvement areas in maintenance practices, documentation, and workflows.
Education:
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field.
Experience:
5–8 years of experience in laboratory instrumentation roles, preferably in regulated environments (pharmaceutical, clinical, food, or environmental labs).
Skills:
Proficient in troubleshooting complex lab instruments.
Strong knowledge of regulatory standards (GMP/GLP/ISO).
Leadership, documentation accuracy, and communication skills.
