The Junior Instrument Lab Technician provides hands-on support for the maintenance, calibration, and routine checks of laboratory instrumentation. This entry-level position is responsible for assisting in ensuring that lab instruments are functioning accurately, safely, and in compliance with quality and operational standards. The role offers foundational experience for a career in lab instrumentation and automation.
Basic Instrument Support & Setup
Assist in setting up and preparing instruments for daily lab use (e.g., balances, pH meters, spectrophotometers, centrifuges).
Perform equipment warm-up, checks, and shutdown procedures under supervision.
Preventive Maintenance Assistance
Support the execution of routine preventive maintenance tasks on analytical and general lab instruments as per SOPs.
Record maintenance activities and escalate any abnormalities to senior technicians.
Calibration & Verification Support
Help in the calibration and functional verification of instruments using standard references or test procedures.
Document results accurately in logs and calibration records.
Troubleshooting Support
Report and document instrument malfunctions or error messages.
Assist senior staff in identifying and resolving minor equipment issues.
Compliance & Documentation
Follow all lab safety protocols, GMP/GLP guidelines, and instrument usage SOPs.
Maintain accurate logs of equipment use, maintenance, and calibration data.
Inventory and Supplies Management
Assist in tracking consumables, reagents, and parts required for instrument maintenance and calibration.
Support in ordering or restocking essential supplies.
Training & Skill Development
Participate in internal training programs related to instrumentation, lab procedures, and compliance.
Continuously improve skills under the guidance of experienced technicians.
Education:
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, or a related scientific/technical field.
Experience:
0–2 years of relevant experience in laboratory or instrumentation support roles (internships or academic labs may qualify).
Skills:
Basic understanding of laboratory equipment and general maintenance practices.
Good communication skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn in a regulated environment.
