Job Summary:

The Mid-Level Instrument Installation Technician is responsible for executing and overseeing the installation of instrument cable trays, signal and control cabling, and impulse/pneumatic tubing for instrumentation systems. This role requires hands-on technical skills, the ability to read layout drawings, and experience working in industrial environments such as power plants, oil & gas facilities, or process plants.


Key Focus Areas:

  • Cable Tray Installation – Independently install and route cable trays for instrument and control cables, including horizontal and vertical runs.

  • Tubing Work – Fabricate, bend, and route stainless steel or copper tubing for pressure and pneumatic signals.

  • Support Structure Setup – Install brackets, strut channels, and cable/tubing supports in accordance with layout drawings.

  • Installation Drawings Interpretation – Accurately read and follow P&IDs, isometric drawings, and tray/tubing layout plans.

  • Site Safety & Compliance – Ensure adherence to project safety protocols, quality standards, and work permit systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute proper alignment, leveling, and anchoring of cable trays and instrument tubing.

  • Use tube benders, cutters, hand tools, and measuring devices with accuracy and safety.

  • Perform ferrule fitting, swaging, and proper tube joint connections as per standards.

  • Coordinate with electrical and instrumentation teams to avoid conflicts in routing and ensure installation sequencing.

  • Identify material requirements and report shortages to the supervisor.

  • Maintain accurate records of installed items and assist in redlining drawings.

  • Support and guide junior technicians or helpers assigned to the task.


Qualifications:

  • Technical Diploma or Trade Certification in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Mechanical Technology.

  • 3–6 years of relevant hands-on experience in cable tray and tubing installation in industrial environments.

  • Working knowledge of standards related to instrument mounting, tubing practices, and electrical segregation (ISA, IEC preferred).


Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficient in use of tube benders, tray cutters, and installation hardware.

  • Ability to work independently and interpret engineering drawings with minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of safety procedures for working at height, in confined spaces, and near live systems.

  • Team player with strong coordination and communication skills.

  • Commitment to accuracy, quality, and safety in installation work.
