The Instrument Drafting Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of drafters in the development and maintenance of instrumentation design drawings, including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), loop diagrams, wiring schematics, and instrument installation layouts. The role ensures deliverables meet technical specifications, drafting standards, and project schedules while supporting cross-discipline coordination and document control processes.
Supervise the preparation, modification, and quality assurance of instrumentation drawings: P&IDs, loop diagrams, cable schedules, termination drawings, and hook-up layouts.
Assign tasks, track progress, and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level drafters.
Ensure drafting outputs are in compliance with project standards (e.g., ISA S5.1, IEC) and company procedures.
Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and consistency across multidisciplinary packages.
Coordinate with instrument engineers, electrical teams, and process designers to ensure integrated and clash-free documentation.
Support the preparation of redlines, as-built updates, and drawing submissions during construction and commissioning.
Manage drafting workload and ensure timely delivery of all I&C documentation based on engineering priorities.
Interface with vendors and package suppliers to incorporate vendor drawings and loop data.
Assist in training new team members on CAD standards and software tools (AutoCAD, SmartPlant, SPI, etc.).
Ensure revision control, file organization, and drawing archiving are maintained per document control policies.
Diploma or Degree in Drafting Technology, Instrumentation, or related field
7–10 years of experience in instrumentation drafting, including 2+ years in a supervisory role
Proficient in AutoCAD, SmartPlant, or equivalent CAD tools
Strong understanding of control loops, signal paths, process instrumentation, and wiring practices
Familiarity with industry standards such as ISA, IEC, ANSI, and ISO drafting conventions
Team leadership and resource planning for drafting workloads
Excellent quality control and drawing review abilities
Effective communication with engineers, site teams, and vendors
Strong organizational and document management discipline
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple drawing packages simultaneously
