Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Senior Instrument Drafter is responsible for overseeing the preparation, review, and quality assurance of detailed instrumentation and control drawings, including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), loop diagrams, wiring schematics, and hookup drawings. This role ensures that all drawings meet project standards, support engineering deliverables, and align with multi-discipline integration throughout the project lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead preparation and revision of instrumentation deliverables: P&IDs, loop diagrams, termination drawings, JB schedules, and instrument index updates.

  • Review and ensure accuracy of control loop representations, wiring schematics, and instrument tag coordination.

  • Validate all drawings against engineering inputs, control philosophies, I/O lists, and vendor datasheets.

  • Maintain drafting standards in line with ISA S5.1, IEC, and client-specific documentation practices.

  • Supervise and mentor a team of junior and mid-level drafters to ensure drawing consistency and deliverable quality.

  • Collaborate with engineers from instrumentation, electrical, and process disciplines to ensure cross-functional alignment.

  • Support document control, revision tracking, as-built verification, and drawing transmittals throughout the design and construction phases.

  • Participate in constructability reviews and respond to RFIs from site teams.

  • Interface with vendors and packaged equipment suppliers to incorporate third-party instrumentation drawings into project documentation.

  • Ensure timely delivery of all instrumentation drawings to meet project milestones.


Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Drafting, Instrumentation, or Engineering Design Technology

  • 8–12 years of experience in instrumentation drafting, including team leadership and QA/QC responsibilities

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), or equivalent drafting tools

  • Deep understanding of instrumentation systems, control loops, PLC/DCS integration, and field device layouts

  • Familiarity with international standards (ISA, IEC, ISO) and industrial project workflows (EPC or plant-based)

  • Leadership in drafting team coordination and quality assurance

  • Precision in drawing development and document control

  • Strong communication with engineering, construction, and vendor teams

  • Advanced problem-solving and cross-discipline coordination skills

  • Ability to manage high volumes of drawings across multiple project phases
