The Junior Instrument Drafter is responsible for supporting the preparation and revision of instrumentation drawings, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Loop Diagrams, using CAD tools under the guidance of senior drafters or engineers. The role involves ensuring drawing accuracy, adherence to drafting standards, and proper documentation to support engineering and construction teams.
Assist in drafting and updating P&IDs and loop diagrams based on engineering markups and redlines.
Use CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or equivalent) to generate instrumentation drawings and layouts.
Incorporate control symbols, tag numbers, instrument bubbles, and line types according to project standards.
Ensure drawing revisions are properly tracked and recorded in line with project documentation control.
Coordinate with senior drafters or engineers to ensure accuracy of instrument interconnections and wiring details.
Assist in preparing instrument location drawings, wiring diagrams, junction box layouts, and cable schedules.
Perform quality checks to verify correct representation of field instruments, control panels, and process connections.
Support engineering teams with drawing submittals and revisions during design reviews and construction phases.
Maintain drawing files and organize documentation in accordance with project filing systems.
Learn and apply company and client drafting standards and procedures.
Diploma or Certificate in Drafting, Instrumentation Technology, or a related field
0–2 years of experience in CAD drafting, preferably in instrumentation or industrial projects
Basic understanding of instrumentation devices, control loops, and industrial P&IDs
Familiarity with AutoCAD, SmartPlant, or similar CAD tools is preferred
Willingness to learn and follow engineering standards and drawing conventions
Attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawings
Ability to read and interpret basic engineering sketches and markups
Good organizational and file management skills
Effective communication and teamwork within multi-discipline environments
Eagerness to develop CAD and instrumentation knowledge under supervision
