The Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Supervisor is responsible for supervising the installation, calibration, maintenance, and performance of all instrumentation and control systems within a regulated medical laboratory environment. The role ensures continuous and reliable operation of critical systems, supports compliance with industry regulations, and leads a team of technicians in daily operations, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Supervise day-to-day operations of I&C systems, including temperature, pressure, humidity, pH, conductivity, and flow instrumentation.
Lead installation, calibration, and validation efforts for laboratory equipment, utilities, and environmental monitoring systems.
Oversee the integration of control systems with Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA, PLCs, and laboratory automation platforms.
Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance schedules and ensure adherence to documentation and safety protocols.
Ensure compliance with GMP, GLP, ISO 17025, CAP, and CLIA standards for all instrumentation and data recording systems.
Maintain calibration records, deviation reports, and corrective action plans in line with audit expectations.
Assist in evaluating and selecting new instrumentation technologies and vendors.
Provide training and supervision to junior technicians and ensure workforce readiness.
Participate in audits and cross-functional meetings regarding facility improvements, risk mitigation, and system upgrades.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
Maintain rigorous compliance with lab accreditation bodies through proper calibration and control system documentation.
Instrumentation Lifecycle Management
Supervise the complete lifecycle of lab instruments: selection, installation, calibration, and decommissioning.
Control System Integration & Oversight
Ensure seamless operation and data exchange between instruments, BMS, SCADA, and laboratory IT systems.
Preventive Maintenance & Reliability
Lead scheduled maintenance and sensor replacement programs to minimize downtime and support 24/7 lab operations.
Alarm & Environmental Monitoring
Oversee alarm management protocols for critical zones (cleanrooms, cold storage, incubators, etc.) to protect sample integrity.
Team Leadership & Technical Guidance
Manage technician teams, assign priorities, review work quality, and provide on-the-job training in instrument handling and control systems.
Audit & Inspection Support
Prepare and present technical documentation during audits and assist with implementation of audit findings and CAPAs.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience:
5–8 years of hands-on experience in I&C systems, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory role within a medical or GMP-regulated lab.
Preferred Certifications:
ISO 17025 / GMP / GLP Training
OSHA/EHS Compliance
Certification in PLC, SCADA, or Building Automation Systems (BAS)
Strong working knowledge of:
Calibration software (e.g., Beamex, Fluke MET/TEAM)
SCADA/HMI platforms (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition, iFix)
BMS and EMS systems integration
Control loop tuning and troubleshooting
Digital and analog sensor configuration
