Hydraulic Valve Design Engineer

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Senior Hydraulic Valve Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and validation of hydraulic valves and control systems for high-performance applications in mobile, industrial, and heavy-duty equipment. The role demands strong technical leadership, system-level thinking, and a hands-on approach to valve innovation, simulation, testing, and production readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of complex hydraulic valves: directional, pressure control, flow control, proportional, and electro-hydraulic types.

  • Drive the engineering lifecycle from concept development, prototyping, and testing through to product release and manufacturing support.

  • Perform and guide advanced fluid dynamics, stress analysis, and material selection to optimize valve performance, durability, and cost.

  • Direct root cause analysis, design reviews, DFMEAs, and design validation plans (DVP&R).

  • Collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and suppliers to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and cost-effectiveness.

  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert on hydraulic valve technologies and their integration into broader systems.

  • Mentor junior engineers, establish design best practices, and contribute to technology roadmaps and innovation strategies.

  • Interface with OEM customers, global engineering teams, and certification bodies to meet performance and regulatory expectations.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Advanced Hydraulic Valve Design – Complex, high-performance, and proportional valves

  • System-Level Engineering – Integration of valves into complete hydraulic systems

  • Simulation & Modeling – CFD, FEA, thermal and flow simulations

  • Product Validation – Accelerated life testing, fatigue analysis, performance tuning

  • Electro-Hydraulics – Integration with sensors, actuators, and control systems

  • Cost, Reliability & Innovation – Material optimization, lifecycle analysis, IP generation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fluid Power Engineering, or Mechatronics

  • 7+ years of experience in hydraulic valve design and development

  • Deep understanding of fluid power principles, flow control, and high-pressure systems

  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo), FEA/CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS, Flow Simulation), and PLM platforms

  • Experience with ISO fluid power standards and valve performance validation

  • Strong documentation, technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in electro-hydraulic control systems

  • Patents or published innovations in valve or fluid control technology

  • Familiarity with automated test rigs, data acquisition systems, and DOE methods

  • Proven ability to lead projects and teams in cross-cultural and global environments
