Job Title: Healthcare Automation Engineer

Job Summary:

The Mid-Level Healthcare Automation Engineer is responsible for managing the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of advanced automation systems in healthcare environments. This role involves handling complex troubleshooting, leading automation integration projects, and ensuring compliance with healthcare standards. The engineer works collaboratively with clinical teams, vendors, and IT staff to deliver reliable and innovative automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

System Maintenance and Optimization:

  • Perform advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of automation systems, including SCADA, PLCs, and IoT-enabled devices.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans to ensure system reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor system performance and propose optimizations to enhance efficiency and functionality.

System Integration and Upgrades:

  • Lead the integration of medical devices with healthcare information systems (e.g., HIS, EMR, PACS) to streamline workflows.
  • Validate and test the functionality of automated systems to ensure compatibility with existing infrastructure.
  • Manage system upgrade projects to align with emerging technologies and regulatory standards.

Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in automation systems using advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring system malfunctions and implement long-term solutions.
  • Collaborate with vendors and senior engineers to address critical technical challenges.

Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure all automation projects and maintenance activities comply with healthcare regulations (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 60601).
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of automation activities for audits and compliance purposes.
  • Participate in internal and external audits to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.

Project Management:

  • Manage medium-scale automation projects, including planning, resource allocation, and execution.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Report project progress, challenges, and outcomes to stakeholders.

Collaboration and Training:

  • Work closely with clinical staff to identify automation requirements and ensure systems meet their operational needs.
  • Provide technical training and support to end-users for effective utilization of automation systems.
  • Collaborate with IT teams and vendors to procure and implement system upgrades.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated on advancements in healthcare automation technologies, including AI, IoT, and machine learning applications.
  • Identify opportunities for workflow automation and implement innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency.
  • Lead initiatives to automate routine tasks and introduce predictive maintenance techniques.

  • Proficiency in healthcare regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 60601).
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for resolving complex technical challenges.
  • Leadership and collaboration skills for managing projects and working with cross-functional teams.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in advanced automation technologies (e.g., PLC programming, SCADA systems) or healthcare compliance are preferred.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in implementing, maintaining, and optimizing automation systems, preferably in healthcare or related industries.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and resolve advanced technical challenges independently.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency in automation platforms (SCADA, PLCs, HMI, IoT systems).
  • Familiarity with advanced diagnostic tools, data logging software, and programming languages (e.g., Python, C++).
  • Exposure to AI and machine learning applications for automation is an advantage.
