We are looking for a hands-on and safety-conscious Junior HVAC Technician to support the operation, inspection, and basic maintenance of HVAC systems in a power plant environment. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with a technical background who are eager to gain practical experience working with large-scale industrial cooling and ventilation equipment essential for plant facility operations.
Routine HVAC System Support
Assist in daily monitoring, operation, and inspection of HVAC systems, including air handling units (AHUs), split units, chillers, cooling towers, and exhaust systems.
Support startup, shutdown, and operational checks under guidance from senior technicians or engineers.
Ensure temperature, humidity, and ventilation standards are maintained in control rooms, MCCs, equipment enclosures, and office areas.
Preventive Maintenance (PM)
Perform scheduled maintenance tasks such as filter replacement, belt adjustment, lubrication, and coil cleaning.
Check and record refrigerant levels, motor conditions, airflow rates, and thermostat settings.
Support maintenance activities to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
Troubleshooting Support
Assist in identifying abnormal noise, vibration, temperature changes, or airflow disruptions.
Work under supervision to help diagnose basic HVAC faults such as electrical issues, low refrigerant, or sensor failures.
Escalate complex issues to senior HVAC staff and document initial findings.
Tools, Equipment & Safety
Use appropriate tools for minor mechanical and electrical tasks including multimeters, gauges, and basic hand tools.
Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, wear PPE, and comply with all plant safety standards.
Keep equipment areas clean and organized to maintain a safe work environment.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain service logs, maintenance checklists, and inspection reports.
Input equipment readings into computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), if applicable.
Report anomalies or equipment performance issues promptly to supervisors.
Learning & Skill Development
Participate in training programs related to HVAC safety, plant protocols, and industrial systems.
Work closely with experienced technicians and engineers to build foundational knowledge of HVAC operations in critical infrastructure.
Learn about relevant codes and practices (ASHRAE, OSHA, SMACNA).
Assist in maintenance and monitoring of HVAC equipment
Learn troubleshooting and repair techniques
Develop working knowledge of HVAC systems in a power plant
Follow safety protocols and plant operating procedures
Maintain records and support compliance requirements
Education:
Technical Diploma or ITI Certificate in HVAC, Mechanical, Refrigeration, or a related field
Certifications (Preferred or Willing to Obtain):
Basic HVAC Certification or EPA Section 608 (Refrigerant Handling)
Safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, first aid) are a plus
Experience:
0–2 years of experience in HVAC maintenance, preferably in an industrial or plant setting
Exposure to plant facilities, electrical rooms, or rotating equipment environments is desirable
Skills:
Basic understanding of HVAC equipment types and functions
Ability to use basic tools and read equipment gauges/instruments
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn
Good physical condition for field work, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined areas
Team player with clear communication and time management skills
