We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Senior HVAC Controls Technician to lead the design, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of advanced HVAC automation systems integrated with DDC controllers, BMS, and SCADA platforms. This senior role involves technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration with engineering and operations teams to ensure reliable, efficient, and compliant HVAC system control across the power plant.
Technical Leadership & System Design
Lead design reviews and technical planning of HVAC control systems, including selection of controllers, sensors, actuators, and communication networks.
Develop and optimize advanced control strategies, sequences of operation, and system integration plans.
Provide expert input on HVAC automation projects, retrofits, and energy optimization initiatives.
Installation, Commissioning & Configuration
Oversee complex installation and commissioning activities of HVAC DDC/BMS/SCADA systems.
Program and fine-tune controllers (e.g., Johnson Controls Metasys, Honeywell, Siemens, Tridium Niagara) to meet operational and energy efficiency goals.
Configure and maintain network communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LON, OPC) ensuring robust and secure data exchange.
Advanced Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution
Lead root cause analysis and resolution of difficult HVAC control system faults, network issues, and field device failures.
Implement predictive diagnostics and system health monitoring to prevent downtime.
Provide rapid response and resolution during critical system failures or operational disturbances.
Mentorship & Team Development
Mentor junior and mid-level controls technicians and support continuous skills development.
Lead training sessions on HVAC control systems, automation protocols, and safety best practices.
Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and IT groups.
Documentation, Compliance & Reporting
Maintain and enforce strict documentation standards, including control system schematics, wiring diagrams, calibration records, and commissioning reports.
Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards (ASHRAE, ISA, IEEE), and regulatory requirements.
Prepare detailed technical reports, system performance analyses, and recommendations for improvements.
Safety & Quality Assurance
Champion adherence to safety procedures, plant EHS policies, and quality control measures.
Lead risk assessments and support audits related to HVAC control systems and network security.
Lead HVAC control system design, commissioning, and integration projects
Resolve complex control system and network faults with minimal downtime
Mentor and develop controls technicians and junior engineers
Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and technical standards
Drive energy efficiency and system optimization through advanced controls
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, or related field preferred
Advanced technical certifications considered an advantage
Certifications (Preferred):
Certified Automation Professional (CAP) or ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST)
Manufacturer certifications (Johnson Controls Metasys, Tridium Niagara, Siemens Desigo, Honeywell DDC)
OSHA 30, EPA 608, and relevant safety certifications
Experience:
5+ years of progressive experience in HVAC controls within power plants, industrial facilities, or large commercial buildings
Extensive experience with DDC programming, BMS/SCADA integration, network protocols, and control logic design
Proven leadership in technical troubleshooting, project execution, and team development
Skills:
Expert-level knowledge of HVAC systems, control principles, and industrial automation
Proficient in BACnet, Modbus, LON, OPC, and other HVAC communication protocols
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
Excellent leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
