We are seeking a skilled and proactive HVAC Controls Technician with mid-level experience to take ownership of installation, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting of DDC control systems integrated with BMS and SCADA platforms. This role requires solid technical expertise in HVAC automation, network protocols, and field device management, supporting the reliable and efficient operation of power plant HVAC systems.
Installation & Commissioning
Lead the installation, wiring, and commissioning of HVAC control devices such as DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, VFDs, and control valves.
Program, configure, and optimize DDC controllers (e.g., Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, Tridium/Niagara) to meet system design requirements.
Develop and update control logic, schedules, and alarms within the BMS or SCADA environment.
System Integration & Networking
Manage integration of HVAC control systems into BMS and SCADA platforms using protocols like BACnet, Modbus, LON, or proprietary networks.
Configure and troubleshoot communication between field devices and central control systems.
Ensure accurate mapping of I/O points, alarms, and trending data for monitoring and analysis.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
Diagnose and resolve HVAC control system faults, sensor failures, communication errors, and actuator malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime.
Perform preventive maintenance and calibration on control devices to maintain optimal system accuracy and reliability.
Use specialized diagnostic tools and software for fault detection and system health monitoring.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain and update comprehensive documentation including wiring diagrams, control logic, device calibration records, and maintenance logs.
Prepare technical reports on system performance, fault trends, and corrective actions.
Assist in audit and compliance activities by providing detailed system records.
Collaboration & Support
Coordinate with mechanical HVAC teams, electrical, and instrumentation personnel during installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior controls technicians.
Support engineering teams during system upgrades, retrofits, and energy optimization projects.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all work complies with plant safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and electrical codes.
Adhere to best practices for refrigerant handling, electrical safety, and environmental regulations.
Lead DDC controller programming and HVAC control system commissioning
Troubleshoot and maintain BMS/SCADA HVAC integrations
Ensure reliable communication and data accuracy across control networks
Mentor junior technicians and support cross-disciplinary collaboration
Maintain detailed technical documentation and support compliance efforts
Education:
Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in HVAC, Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, or related field
Certifications (Preferred):
Tridium Niagara Certification, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo, or Honeywell DDC training
OSHA 10/30, EPA 608 (if involved in refrigerants)
Networking certifications (e.g., CCNA) are a plus
Experience:
2–5 years of experience in HVAC controls, DDC programming, BMS/SCADA integration, preferably in power plants or industrial facilities
Proven ability to program, troubleshoot, and maintain HVAC control systems and associated field devices
Skills:
Strong understanding of HVAC systems and control theory
Proficiency with BACnet, Modbus, LON protocols, and network troubleshooting
Skilled in using diagnostic tools, programming software, and CMMS platforms
Ability to interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and system architecture
Effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
