The Senior HVAC Controls Engineer – Automation and Monitoring Systems leads the design, programming, and deployment of advanced control and monitoring systems for complex HVAC applications in marine vessels, offshore platforms, and specialized industrial environments. This role ensures the integration of automation systems that meet regulatory, safety, and performance standards, with a focus on energy efficiency, system reliability, and remote diagnostics. The engineer provides technical leadership across all project phases, from concept through commissioning.
Lead the design and programming of HVAC control systems, including PLC logic, HMI development, and supervisory control platforms.
Define and implement sequence of operations (SOO) for HVAC assets such as chillers, air handling units, VAVs, fans, dampers, and exhaust systems.
Specify and integrate field devices (sensors, actuators, transmitters, VFDs) into automated systems with robust signal conditioning and diagnostics.
Architect SCADA and BMS/BAS platforms for remote monitoring, data logging, performance visualization, and fault detection.
Supervise system commissioning, functional testing, and tuning at shipyards, offshore platforms, or during FAT/SAT processes.
Ensure all control systems meet relevant regulatory and classification requirements (e.g., ABS, USCG, DNV, IMO, IEC 61131).
Serve as the technical point of contact for automation vendors, integrators, and shipbuilding partners.
Lead or mentor junior and mid-level controls engineers; provide guidance on troubleshooting, programming, and system integration.
Participate in control system risk assessments, failure mode analysis, and cybersecurity audits for HVAC automation networks.
Maintain complete system documentation: I/O lists, control panel layouts, loop diagrams, software backups, and compliance records.
