The Junior GMP Instrument Hook-up Drafter supports the instrumentation and piping design team by creating accurate and detailed instrument hook-up drawings for use in GMP-compliant environments, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, and regulated lab facilities. This role involves working with P&IDs, loop diagrams, and engineering specifications to draft installation details for field instruments while ensuring strict adherence to documentation and GMP standards.
Instrument Hook-up Drafting
Develop clear and accurate hook-up drawings for transmitters, analyzers, control valves, and field-mounted instruments.
Ensure inclusion of tubing, brackets, fittings, seal pots, impulse lines, manifolds, and mounting details.
GMP Documentation Standards
Follow Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and ensure drawings meet GMP regulatory standards.
Incorporate revision control, traceability, and compliance annotations as per validation protocols.
Coordination with Engineering
Work closely with instrumentation engineers and piping designers to understand equipment and installation requirements.
Interpret P&IDs, equipment layouts, and instrumentation datasheets to generate accurate hook-up views.
CAD Software Proficiency
Use AutoCAD (or equivalent CAD software) to prepare drawings based on templates and project standards.
Maintain drawing organization, layering, and detail consistency.
Standardization and Libraries
Utilize and maintain standard blocks and symbol libraries for consistent hook-up drafting.
Support updates to drafting templates based on engineering or QA feedback.
Change Management
Assist in updating existing drawings based on field modifications, RFIs, or design changes.
Redline and revise drawings as required during engineering reviews or inspections.
Compliance and Safety Considerations
Ensure drawings reflect safe, accessible, and cleanroom-compliant instrument installation practices.
Apply GMP-aligned materials and connection standards in detailing.
Learning and Development
Develop knowledge of instrumentation types, process conditions, and clean utility systems.
Participate in training on GMP guidelines, cGxP, and life sciences industry design practices.
Education:
Diploma or associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation Engineering, or Drafting Technology.
Experience:
0–2 years of drafting experience; prior internship or project work in regulated industries is a plus.
