The Senior Filter & AHU Technician leads maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance optimization of air handling and filtration systems supporting water and wastewater treatment facilities. This role is responsible for ensuring ventilation equipment complies with health, safety, and regulatory standards. The technician provides technical direction to junior staff, oversees complex repairs, and supports integration with SCADA, building automation systems (BAS), and energy efficiency initiatives.
Lead inspection, servicing, and replacement of filters (HEPA, MERV, carbon) and components within AHUs and mechanical ventilation systems.
Conduct precision maintenance on motors, fans, dampers, actuators, belts, pulleys, and vibration-isolated assemblies.
Oversee AHU coil cleaning, air balancing, and airflow optimization procedures.
Diagnose complex performance issues related to airflow restrictions, pressure drops, and mechanical degradation.
Interface with automation and controls teams to calibrate sensors and optimize ventilation sequences.
Recommend system upgrades or modifications to improve air quality and energy efficiency.
Train and mentor junior technicians and apprentices on maintenance protocols, safety practices, and HVAC fundamentals.
Support scheduling, work planning, and supervision of HVAC-related tasks during outages or planned maintenance.
Ensure adherence to ASHRAE, OSHA, and facility-specific IAQ and ventilation standards.
Maintain detailed service logs, failure reports, and inspection documentation in CMMS platforms.
Participate in HVAC audits, asset condition assessments, and reliability improvement initiatives.

Education:
Associate degree or technical diploma in HVAC Technology, Mechanical Systems, or Facilities Engineering preferred
Certifications:
EPA 608 Universal Certification required
OSHA 30, Confined Space, or equivalent certifications highly desirable
ASHRAE or IAQ-related training/certifications a plus
Experience:
5+ years of HVAC maintenance experience in industrial or water treatment settings
Proven expertise with large commercial or industrial AHUs, filtration systems, and HVAC controls
Skills:
Strong leadership, coordination, and mentoring abilities
High proficiency in diagnostics, performance testing, and technical troubleshooting
Familiarity with SCADA/BAS integration for HVAC systems
Excellent documentation, planning, and communication skills
