Job Title: Filter & Air Handling Unit (AHU) Technician – Water Treatment

Job Summary:

The Junior Filter & AHU Technician supports the maintenance and servicing of air filtration systems and air handling units across water and wastewater treatment facilities. This entry-level role focuses on filter replacement, basic mechanical maintenance, and cleanliness of HVAC components to ensure air quality and system performance meet regulatory and operational standards. The technician works under close supervision and is expected to follow safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and develop skills for advancement.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Assist with routine inspection, cleaning, and replacement of air filters in AHUs, fan coil units, and ventilation systems.

  • Support the mechanical upkeep of AHU components such as fans, belts, dampers, and motors.

  • Report unusual noise, vibration, or performance issues to senior technicians.

System Monitoring

  • Check gauges, airflow indicators, and control panel readouts for performance abnormalities.

  • Log filter differential pressure readings and participate in preventive maintenance programs.

Workplace Safety & Cleanliness

  • Maintain clean and organized mechanical rooms, AHU housings, and filter banks.

  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, and PPE requirements during all maintenance tasks.

  • Report safety hazards or equipment malfunctions promptly.

Learning & Development

  • Learn to interpret basic HVAC schematics and equipment manuals.

  • Attend training sessions on AHU operation, filter types (HEPA, pleated, carbon), and water treatment HVAC systems.

  • Gain experience with digital maintenance management systems (CMMS) for work orders and documentation.


Key Focus Areas

  • Support filter replacement and AHU cleaning

  • Assist in routine HVAC system upkeep

  • Adhere to safety and maintenance best practices

  • Build foundational knowledge in air handling systems


Qualifications and Skills

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Technical training in HVAC or mechanical systems preferred

Certifications:

  • OSHA 10 certification desirable

  • Entry-level HVAC technician certifications a plus

Experience:

  • 0–2 years of experience in HVAC, mechanical maintenance, or facilities support

  • Exposure to air filtration or AHU components is a plus

Skills:

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and tool usage

  • Willingness to learn in a hands-on environment

  • Attention to detail and cleanliness

  • Teamwork and strong communication skills
