Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Field Service Technician – Hydro Energy Units supports the field maintenance, installation, and servicing of hydro energy equipment, including turbines, generators, valves, and associated auxiliary systems. This role involves assisting experienced technicians and engineers with inspections, mechanical repairs, and commissioning tasks on-site at hydroelectric facilities. The position offers hands-on learning opportunities and career growth in the renewable energy sector.


Key Responsibilities:

  • On-Site Equipment Support:

    • Assist in the mechanical maintenance and servicing of hydro turbines, wicket gates, draft tubes, and associated components.

    • Support inspections, testing, and performance checks on hydro units and auxiliaries (e.g., lubrication, cooling systems).

  • Installation & Commissioning Assistance:

    • Help install and align hydro mechanical components during new equipment commissioning or upgrades.

    • Work with the team to ensure proper fit-up, torqueing, and alignment of mechanical assemblies.

  • Data Collection & Documentation:

    • Record readings, dimensions, and site observations during inspections and interventions.

    • Assist in preparing basic service reports, checklists, and job logs.

  • Tool & Material Handling:

    • Prepare and handle hand tools, measuring instruments, rigging equipment, and portable power tools.

    • Support logistics and setup of tools and materials needed at job sites.

  • Safety & Compliance Support:

    • Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements during fieldwork, including confined space, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and lifting operations.

    • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work area.

  • Learning & Technical Development:

    • Participate in on-the-job training and technical workshops related to hydroelectric maintenance.

    • Gain exposure to operating principles of Kaplan, Francis, or Pelton turbines and generator systems.


Key Focus Areas:

  1. Mechanical Maintenance Support:
    Assist in maintenance and repair of hydro turbines, valves, and auxiliary equipment under supervision.

  2. Field Operations Readiness:
    Support site setup, tool preparation, and safety compliance during hydroelectric service jobs.

  3. Installation & Alignment Basics:
    Learn basic alignment, assembly, and mechanical fitting techniques for hydro unit components.

  4. Team Collaboration:
    Work closely with senior technicians and engineers to execute field service tasks effectively.

  5. Data & Documentation:
    Collect and report accurate data from inspections and interventions to support reliability records.

  6. Training & Growth:
    Focus on developing technical skills in renewable hydro energy systems and field service operations.


Qualifications:

  • ITI/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or equivalent.

  • 0–2 years of experience in field service or industrial mechanical maintenance (freshers welcome).

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems and hydro power plant components is a plus.

  • Willingness to travel to remote sites and work in varying environmental conditions.

  • Good physical stamina, safety awareness, and eagerness to learn.

  • Basic knowledge of hand tools, torque wrenches, and measurement instruments.
