Job Summary
The Director/VP of Fiber Optics is a senior executive role that drives the strategic vision, planning, and expansion of fiber optic network infrastructures within an organization. The individual is responsible for managing large-scale fiber optic projects, overseeing technical teams, and ensuring business objectives align with the company’s fiber optic capabilities. This executive position requires strong leadership, business acumen, and a deep understanding of the telecommunications and networking sectors. The Director/VP will also engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to enhance the company’s market position and innovation in fiber optic technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Vision: Develop and execute the organization’s long-term fiber optic strategy, aligned with business objectives and market demands. Identify new opportunities for growth, investment, and technological innovation within the fiber optics field.
- Project Oversight & Management: Oversee the planning and execution of large-scale fiber optic network deployment and upgrade projects. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards.
- Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor senior technical teams, including engineers, project managers, and department heads. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and high performance.
- Business Development & Client Relations: Build and maintain relationships with key clients, partners, and stakeholders. Engage in business development to expand the company’s fiber optic services and secure new contracts.
- Financial & Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for fiber optic projects, ensuring financial goals are met. Optimize resource allocation to maximize profitability and minimize costs.
- Market & Technology Innovation: Stay ahead of emerging fiber optic technologies, market trends, and regulatory changes. Identify opportunities for innovation and ensure the company is positioned to leverage the latest advancements in fiber optics.
- Regulatory & Compliance Oversight: Ensure that all fiber optic operations comply with relevant regulations, standards, and safety guidelines. Advocate for the company’s interests in regulatory matters and industry forums.
- Stakeholder Communication & Reporting: Provide regular updates and strategic recommendations to the executive team, board members, and clients. Present complex technical information in an accessible manner for non-technical stakeholders.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks related to fiber optic projects, including supply chain issues, regulatory changes, and technical challenges. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure business continuity.
Skills and Knowledge Required
- Leadership & Strategic Planning: Proven track record of leading large-scale projects and teams, with the ability to define and execute strategic initiatives in fiber optics.
- Business Acumen: Strong understanding of business operations, including budgeting, project management, and client relationship management.
- Fiber Optics Expertise: Deep technical knowledge of fiber optics, including network design, installation, testing, and maintenance, with a focus on cutting-edge technologies such as DWDM, GPON, and FTTH.
- Negotiation & Stakeholder Management: Expertise in negotiating contracts, managing client relationships, and liaising with regulatory bodies.
- Market Awareness: A keen understanding of market trends, emerging technologies, and the competitive landscape within the fiber optic and telecommunications industries.
- Risk Management & Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex challenges in both technical and business domains.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Educational Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Preferred: Executive leadership programs or certifications in management (e.g., PMP, MBA) and advanced fiber optic certifications (e.g., RCDD, CFOS)

Experience
- Required: At least 10+ years of experience in the fiber optics or telecommunications industry, with a focus on leadership roles and large-scale network management.
- Preferred: Experience working in a senior management or executive role, particularly within a company with a significant fiber optics division or client base.

- Project Management Software: Microsoft Project, Primavera, or similar tools for managing large projects.
- Network Simulation & Management Tools: GIS software, AutoCAD, and advanced fiber optic simulation tools.
