Roles & Responsibilities

The Mid-Level Feedwater System Technician is responsible for independently operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting feedwater systems in boiler and steam generation operations. This role involves ensuring proper water quality, feedwater delivery, and pump performance while supporting boiler efficiency and reliability. The technician contributes to system optimization, safety, and preventative maintenance schedules.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor feedwater systems including pumps, deaerators, feed tanks, valves, and preheaters.

  • Conduct regular inspections and perform preventive maintenance on feedwater pumps, piping, and accessories.

  • Analyze feedwater samples for key chemical parameters such as oxygen content, hardness, conductivity, and pH.

  • Calibrate and maintain instrumentation related to feedwater flow, pressure, and temperature.

  • Detect and troubleshoot common system issues including cavitation, leakage, scaling, and corrosion.

  • Coordinate with boiler operations team to align feedwater output with load demands.

  • Document operating conditions, maintenance activities, and water treatment data for recordkeeping and compliance.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry standards including ASME and NBIC guidelines.

  • Assist in training junior technicians or apprentices on feedwater system operations and safety procedures.

  • Recommend improvements to enhance feedwater efficiency and reduce energy losses.

    • Ensure consistent and reliable operation of feedwater systems; resolve flow and pump-related issues.

  2. Water Quality & Chemical Monitoring

    • Manage feedwater chemistry to prevent boiler fouling and maintain steam quality.

  3. Preventive Maintenance

    • Execute scheduled tasks to maintain performance and extend the lifespan of feedwater components.

  4. Compliance & Documentation

    • Maintain accurate logs and adhere to safety and environmental standards related to boiler and feedwater systems.

  5. Operational Coordination

    • Collaborate with the boiler operations team to synchronize feedwater delivery and system demand.


📘 Qualifications:

  • Technical diploma or associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or Industrial Maintenance.

  • 3–5 years of experience working with feedwater or boiler systems in an industrial or utility setting.

  • Working knowledge of boiler feedwater components, water chemistry, and pump operation.

  • Familiarity with relevant codes (ASME, NBIC) and safety procedures (LOTO, confined space).

  • Proficiency in reading P&IDs and mechanical schematics.

  • Basic understanding of control systems (BMS/PLC/SCADA) related to feedwater operation is a plus.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
