Fabrication Technician – Aerospace Metal Parts

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Fabrication Technician to lead the fabrication of aerospace-grade metal components. This position requires expert knowledge in precision metalworking, fabrication standards, and quality control processes used in the aerospace industry. The ideal candidate will take a hands-on leadership role, mentoring junior technicians while ensuring the highest levels of safety, quality, and production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the fabrication of complex aerospace metal parts including cutting, forming, bending, TIG welding, and finishing operations.

  • Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.

  • Operate and maintain a wide range of fabrication equipment including press brakes, shears, CNC punch presses, saws, grinders, and drill presses.

  • Perform high-precision welding (TIG preferred) and mechanical assembly in accordance with aerospace standards.

  • Ensure all parts meet strict dimensional tolerances and quality standards through in-process inspections using precision measurement tools.

  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior fabrication technicians.

  • Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to resolve fabrication issues, support first article inspections (FAIs), and recommend process improvements.

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, material usage, and inspection data in compliance with AS9100 or ISO standards.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing practices and 5S implementation.

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, material traceability, and cleanliness standards in a high-compliance environment.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Expert-Level Fabrication: Mastery in aerospace metal fabrication, welding, forming, and assembly processes.

  • Leadership & Mentoring: Lead by example and provide hands-on training and support to junior staff.

  • Precision & Quality: Ensure all fabricated components meet stringent aerospace tolerances and inspection criteria.

  • Problem Solving & Process Optimization: Proactively address production issues and drive fabrication process improvements.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, quality, and production planning teams to meet delivery schedules and compliance goals.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Ensure full traceability and documentation of fabrication processes in line with AS9100/ISO standards.

Qualifications:

  • Technical diploma or trade certification in metal fabrication, welding, or aerospace manufacturing.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in aerospace or high-precision metal fabrication.

  • Proficient in TIG welding, sheet metal fabrication, and the use of fabrication machinery.

  • Advanced ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and aerospace fabrication standards.

  • Strong working knowledge of aerospace materials (aluminum, titanium, stainless steel) and industry requirements (e.g., AS9100).

  • Experience with FAI, SPC, and non-conformance resolution preferred.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
