The Senior Fabrication Technician leads complex fabrication operations, producing high-precision components and assemblies for production, prototype, or custom projects. This role involves expert-level work with welding, machining, forming, and fitting of metal parts using manual and CNC fabrication tools. The technician plays a critical role in guiding junior staff, ensuring product quality, optimizing fabrication processes, and contributing to the development of fixtures, tools, and manufacturing improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the fabrication of high-tolerance parts and complex assemblies from detailed blueprints and CAD drawings.
Operate and set up a wide range of equipment including TIG/MIG welders, press brakes, CNC machines, and forming tools.
Fabricate precision components with minimal supervision, ensuring compliance with GD&T, safety, and material standards.
Develop and refine fabrication methods, jigs, and fixtures to improve accuracy, repeatability, and throughput.
Inspect finished components using precision tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges) and support root cause analysis for quality deviations.
Train and mentor junior technicians in fabrication best practices, equipment safety, and quality control.
Collaborate with design, quality, and manufacturing engineering to resolve issues and support production readiness.
Maintain accurate documentation of fabrication procedures, tool setups, and process improvements.
Key Focus Areas:
Expert-level metal fabrication, assembly, and welding
Leadership in process improvement and mentoring
Collaboration on design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and tooling development
Complex part layout, precision fitting, and quality inspection
Production support, prototyping, and advanced equipment setup
