The Junior Fabrication Shop Supervisor supports the daily operations of the fabrication section, assisting in supervising shop-floor activities such as cutting, welding, bending, and assembly of metal components. The role ensures smooth workflow, proper resource usage, and adherence to safety and quality standards, while gaining experience under the guidance of senior supervisors.
Monitor day-to-day activities in the fabrication shop
Assist in scheduling and allocating tasks to operators, welders, and fitters
Ensure proper use of machinery like shearing, bending, and welding equipment
Support quality checks of fabricated parts based on basic engineering drawings
Identify and report deviations or rework issues to seniors or QA/QC teams
Assist in ensuring products meet required dimensions and welding standards
Enforce basic safety practices (PPE, equipment checks, housekeeping)
Support implementation of 5S and lean practices on the shop floor
Help identify potential hazards and suggest corrective actions
Ensure raw materials (plates, sections, pipes) are issued and utilized properly
Monitor consumables (welding rods, gas, grinding wheels) and raise requests as needed
Maintain basic records of material use and work progress
Coordinate with team leads, machine operators, and welders for smooth workflow
Support time tracking, attendance, and work reporting
Relay instructions from senior supervisors and ensure tasks are executed on time
Assist in supervising fabrication shop activities
Ensure shop-floor staff follow production targets and safety norms
Maintain basic records related to daily output, rework, and delays
Report equipment issues or breakdowns to maintenance teams
Coordinate with stores and production planning for materials and tools
Diploma / ITI in Mechanical Engineering / Fabrication Technology / Welding
1–3 years of experience in a fabrication or sheet metal shop (internships/apprenticeships acceptable)
Basic knowledge of fabrication processes (cutting, welding, fitting, grinding)
Ability to read simple engineering drawings and welding symbols
Awareness of shop-floor safety and handling of tools/machines
Good communication and team coordination skills
Willingness to learn and grow into a full supervisory role
Experience in structural steel fabrication, tanks, piping, or heavy equipment
Familiarity with basic welding standards (e.g., AWS, ASME Section IX)
Knowledge of ERP/shop-floor tracking systems is a plus
Workshop environment – exposure to noise, welding fumes, and metal handling
PPE (helmet, gloves, safety shoes, goggles) mandatory
May involve standing, lifting, and shift duties
