The Fabrication Shop Manager / Yard Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day operations in the fabrication workshop or yard, ensuring production targets are met in terms of quality, schedule, cost, and safety. The role involves close coordination with engineering, planning, quality, and safety departments to oversee the efficient and timely fabrication of structures, piping, modules, skids, and other mechanical components.
Oversee all fabrication activities including cutting, fitting, welding, machining, and assembly.
Ensure production output aligns with project requirements and delivery schedules.
Supervise and allocate manpower and equipment resources to meet daily and weekly targets.
Manage layout planning of the fabrication yard/shop for optimal space utilization and workflow.
Monitor material flow, staging, and movement from raw material to finished product.
Implement Lean practices to minimize waste and increase throughput.
Ensure fabrication work meets all technical specifications, codes (ASME, AWS, API), and quality standards.
Coordinate with QA/QC teams for stage-wise inspections, WPS/PQR compliance, and final acceptance.
Handle non-conformances, rework, and root cause analysis in collaboration with quality teams.
Ensure all operations follow HSE guidelines, PPE usage, and safe work practices.
Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and ensure incident reporting and resolution.
Implement and enforce emergency response procedures and site safety protocols.
Lead a team of supervisors, welders, fitters, riggers, and helpers.
Coordinate with planning, logistics, procurement, and maintenance departments.
Train shop personnel in safe and efficient fabrication techniques.
Monitor availability of materials, tools, consumables, and fabrication equipment.
Ensure preventive maintenance of machinery and lifting tools.
Request procurement of required items in advance to avoid production delays.

Education:
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, or Fabrication Engineering
Certifications (Preferred):
Welding Inspector (CSWIP 3.1 / AWS CWI)
ISO 9001 / ISO 45001 awareness
HSE certifications (NEBOSH/IOSH) preferred
Experience:
10–20 years of experience in fabrication yard/shop operations
Proven ability to lead teams in heavy fabrication for oil & gas, EPC, or industrial projects
Skills:
Strong leadership and shop floor management skills
Knowledge of fabrication equipment, welding processes, and shop layout optimization
ERP/shop-floor production software familiarity (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
