The Fabrication Shop Manager is responsible for leading and managing all fabrication operations related to structural steel, piping, and pressure parts required for power plant construction, maintenance, and shutdown projects. This role involves overseeing daily shop activities, ensuring adherence to engineering specifications, welding and fabrication codes, safety standards, and production schedules. The manager plays a key role in maintaining quality output, reducing downtime, and supporting timely project delivery.
Oversee all shop-floor fabrication activities including cutting, welding, fitting, assembly, and dispatch.
Plan and assign work schedules to optimize manpower and machine utilization.
Maintain equipment, tools, and machinery in optimal working condition to ensure uninterrupted production.
Coordinate with project teams and engineering departments to review fabrication drawings and prioritize work orders.
Monitor daily production outputs and adjust schedules to meet changing project requirements.
Ensure timely delivery of fabricated items to field installation teams or clients.
Enforce fabrication standards per ASME, AWS, AISC, and applicable client specifications.
Supervise inspections, dimensional checks, welding quality, and final acceptance of fabricated components.
Maintain detailed production, welding, and inspection records for traceability.
Enforce strict compliance with safety policies and PPE usage in the fabrication shop.
Conduct toolbox talks, safety drills, and incident investigations as necessary.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment to reduce hazards and improve efficiency.
Supervise welders, fabricators, fitters, helpers, and shop floor supervisors.
Assess performance, provide coaching, and identify training needs for skill enhancement.
Foster teamwork, productivity, and discipline on the shop floor.
Monitor inventory levels of consumables, steel materials, and welding supplies.
Coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams to avoid shortages or overstocking.
Ensure proper storage and material traceability in compliance with project and QA requirements.

Education:
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication Technology, or a related field
Experience:
8–12 years of experience in fabrication operations within power plants or heavy industrial sectors
Solid knowledge of structural and piping fabrication, welding techniques, and equipment
Familiarity with relevant standards: ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, AISC, ISO 3834
Skills:
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Proficiency in reading fabrication drawings and welding symbols
Working knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW)
Good communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities
Familiarity with ERP/MRP or production planning tools (preferred)
