Fabrication QA/QC Supervisor

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Mid-Level Fabrication QA/QC Supervisor to lead quality control efforts within our fabrication division. This role involves supervising inspection teams, ensuring product compliance with industry standards and customer specifications, and driving continuous improvement in quality processes. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of fabrication methods, welding inspection, and quality systems, along with proven leadership in a production environment.

Key Focus Areas:

1. Inspection & Quality Control Oversight

    • Oversee and coordinate in-process, final, and incoming inspections of fabricated metal components.

    • Ensure effective implementation of inspection plans and quality checklists.

2. Team Leadership & Development

    • Supervise, train, and evaluate quality inspectors and technicians.

    • Assign responsibilities and ensure consistent application of quality standards.

3. Compliance & Industry Standards

    • Enforce compliance with standards such as AWS D1.1, ASME, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.

    • Maintain welding documentation including WPS, PQRs, and welder qualifications.

4. Non-Conformance Management

    • Investigate quality issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions (NCR, CAPA).

    • Coordinate with production, engineering, and supply chain teams on quality resolutions.

5. Documentation & Quality Reporting

    • Maintain accurate inspection records, weld maps, and test reports.

    • Prepare and present quality metrics, defect trends, and audit findings to management.

Core Responsibilities:

    • Supervise daily QA/QC operations related to welding, cutting, forming, and assembly of fabricated products.

    • Monitor product quality throughout the fabrication lifecycle to ensure specifications are met.

    • Conduct internal audits and support external customer or third-party inspections.

    • Ensure traceability of materials and adherence to documentation control.

    • Collaborate with Engineering and Production to review drawings, specifications, and quality plans.

    • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap and improve first-pass yield.

Required Qualifications:

    • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Technology, Fabrication, or related field.

    • 5–7 years of QA/QC experience in a metal fabrication or welding environment, including 2+ years in a supervisory role.

    • Strong understanding of fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and quality inspection tools.

    • Familiarity with codes and standards: AWS, ASME, ISO 9001, etc.

    • Proficient in using inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.) and quality documentation systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification.

    • Experience in sectors such as aerospace, construction steel, automotive structures, or heavy equipment fabrication.

    • Working knowledge of ERP or QMS platforms.

    • Lean Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement training is a plus.
