The Executive Director – Water Control and Automation is a strategic leadership role responsible for the end-to-end oversight of control systems, SCADA operations, and automation technologies across water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role ensures the seamless integration of advanced automation systems for improved operational efficiency, water quality, and resource sustainability. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in industrial automation within the water sector, along with strong managerial and strategic planning capabilities.
Strategic Oversight:
Define and implement the automation and control systems strategy for the organization’s water infrastructure projects.
SCADA & Process Control Leadership:
Oversee the design, development, and optimization of SCADA, PLC, DCS, and telemetry systems used in water treatment, desalination, and distribution.
Technology Modernization:
Lead the digital transformation initiatives, including smart metering, real-time analytics, and predictive maintenance using IoT and AI solutions.
Project Execution:
Manage large-scale automation implementation projects, from planning through commissioning, ensuring alignment with budget, schedule, and performance criteria.
Compliance & Cybersecurity:
Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and implement robust cybersecurity protocols for control systems.
Team Development:
Lead a team of engineers and automation specialists, fostering innovation, collaboration, and high performance.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with internal departments, government authorities, vendors, and technology providers to ensure successful integration of automation systems.
Performance Optimization:
Drive continuous improvement in system reliability, energy efficiency, and operational control metrics.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Control Systems, or Mechatronics Engineering
15+ years of experience in industrial automation within the water or utilities sector, with at least 5 years in executive or director-level roles
Strong expertise in SCADA, PLC, DCS, HMI, and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC, MQTT)
Experience with smart water solutions and digital control system architectures
PMP, ISA, or related certifications preferred
Strategic planning and executive decision-making
Deep understanding of process automation in water systems
Advanced knowledge of industrial control architecture and integration
Excellent leadership and team management skills
Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities
