Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Executive Director – Turbomachinery and Mechanical Systems to lead the strategic direction, innovation, and execution of engineering programs related to turbomachinery, rotating equipment, and high-performance mechanical systems. This role requires a deep technical background, cross-functional leadership, and the ability to drive excellence in engineering, operations, and reliability across large-scale industrial applications.


Key Focus Area:

  • Provide strategic leadership and technical oversight for the design, development, lifecycle management, and performance optimization of turbomachinery and mechanical systems (e.g., compressors, turbines, pumps, gearboxes, seals) used in power generation, oil & gas, petrochemicals, or industrial manufacturing.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute long-term strategic plans for turbomachinery engineering, reliability, and performance improvements.

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in design, R&D, operation, and troubleshooting of complex rotating and mechanical systems.

  • Oversee capital projects involving turbomachinery selection, procurement, installation, and commissioning.

  • Establish and enforce engineering best practices, technical standards, and safety policies.

  • Drive innovation in machinery design, diagnostics, and condition monitoring technologies (e.g., vibration, thermography, digital twins).

  • Manage vendor relationships and technology partnerships for equipment performance and lifecycle support.

  • Provide technical expertise and executive-level support to operations, maintenance, and reliability teams.

  • Mentor and develop senior engineers and technical managers.

  • Support budgeting, risk analysis, and investment planning related to mechanical systems infrastructure.

  • Represent the organization at industry forums, technical committees, and regulatory bodies.


Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Turbomachinery specialization preferred).

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership/executive role.

  • Deep expertise in turbomachinery systems including axial and centrifugal compressors, steam/gas turbines, large pumps, and associated mechanical components.

  • Proven track record leading complex engineering programs or multi-site operations.

  • Strategic leadership – ability to shape engineering vision and influence organizational direction.

  • Technical program management – delivering complex projects on-time, on-budget, and to specification.

  • Innovation & R&D leadership – driving improvements in performance, efficiency, and predictive maintenance.

  • Cross-functional collaboration – strong ability to engage with operations, procurement, finance, and external partners.

  • Decision-making & risk management – balancing technical feasibility, cost, and operational risk.

  • People development – mentoring technical talent and building high-performance teams.


Preferred Certifications & Affiliations:

  • Professional Engineering License (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng)

  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or API 687 (Turbomachinery)

  • Member of ASME, API, or Turbomachinery Symposium groups

  • Executive leadership training or MBA (preferred but not mandatory)


Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with frequent travel to operational facilities, manufacturing plants, and vendor sites.

  • Will require global coordination and may involve occasional international travel.
