Roles & Responsibilities

The Executive Director – Boiler and Pressure Systems is accountable for strategic leadership, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence of all boiler and pressure equipment systems across the organization. This role oversees design standards, performance monitoring, lifecycle asset management, and safety assurance for high-pressure vessels, steam generators, heat exchangers, and associated systems in power generation, manufacturing, or process industries.

This executive-level position demands technical depth, regulatory acumen, and proven leadership in managing complex boiler operations in high-stakes environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide executive oversight and strategic direction for the operation, maintenance, inspection, and compliance of all boiler and pressure systems.

  • Ensure systems are operated in compliance with relevant codes, laws, and standards (e.g., ASME, NBIC, API, ISO, local regulations).

  • Lead development and implementation of inspection programs, integrity assessments, and certification schedules for pressure equipment.

  • Oversee major overhauls, retrofits, and lifecycle replacements of boilers and pressure systems.

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, safety, and regulatory bodies to ensure plant integrity and risk mitigation.

  • Direct performance monitoring programs including boiler efficiency, emissions control, and safety interlocks.

  • Manage relationships with third-party inspection agencies, design authorities, OEMs, and certifying bodies.

  • Lead RCA (Root Cause Analysis) for any boiler or pressure system failures and develop corrective/preventive measures.

  • Set the strategic roadmap for modernization, automation, and energy optimization of boiler systems.

  • Guide training programs to build in-house expertise and ensure knowledge transfer across technical teams.

  • Monitor budget planning, cost control, and asset investment decisions for boiler-related infrastructure.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Regulatory Compliance & Safety

    • Ensure all pressure systems and boilers meet compliance with safety and legal frameworks across jurisdictions.

  2. Asset Integrity & Lifecycle Management

    • Drive best practices in inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT), corrosion monitoring, and reliability-centered maintenance.

  3. Operational Excellence

    • Improve boiler efficiency, reduce unplanned outages, and implement control systems for emissions and heat recovery.

  4. Engineering Oversight

    • Approve critical design changes, specifications, and material selections for new or upgraded pressure systems.

  5. Leadership & Organizational Capacity Building

    • Lead multidisciplinary teams and enhance internal capabilities through mentoring, governance, and strategic planning.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; Master’s or MBA preferred.

  • 20+ years of experience in boiler operations and pressure systems, with at least 5–7 years in a senior leadership role.

  • In-depth knowledge of boiler codes (ASME Section I, Section VIII), pressure vessel standards, welding codes, and inspection protocols.

  • Experience managing high-pressure and high-temperature systems in power generation, oil & gas, or large industrial plants.

  • Proficient in asset integrity management systems, failure analysis, NDT, and CMMS platforms.

  • Strong understanding of risk-based inspection (RBI), FMEA, and fitness-for-service (FFS) evaluations.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Boiler Operation Engineer (BOE)

  • Pressure Equipment Integrity Management Certification (API 510, 570, 579)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)

  • NEBOSH or equivalent safety management credential

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or PE License

Work Environment:

  • Executive office role with frequent site visits to plants, fabrication yards, and regulatory meetings.

  • May involve oversight of multi-site operations and interaction with government bodies, industry associations, and compliance agencies.
