Job Title: Estimation Engineer
Job Summary:
The Mid-Level Estimation Engineer is responsible for independently managing the preparation of accurate and detailed cost estimates for complex projects. This role involves analyzing technical requirements, managing vendor relationships, optimizing estimation processes, and contributing to strategic decision-making. The Estimation Engineer ensures that estimates align with client expectations, industry standards, and organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation and Analysis:
- Develop detailed and comprehensive cost estimates based on technical specifications, blueprints, and project requirements.
- Perform material takeoffs, labor cost analysis, and equipment cost evaluations for large-scale and multi-phase projects.
- Evaluate vendor quotations and negotiate pricing to ensure cost-effectiveness while meeting quality standards.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, bid proposals, and summary reports for internal and client review.
- Maintain accurate and updated records of all estimation activities, including material costs, vendor quotes, and historical data.
- Ensure all documentation complies with organizational and regulatory standards.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with project managers, procurement teams, and design engineers to understand project scope and constraints.
- Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain technical and cost information.
- Participate in pre-bid and post-bid meetings to address cost-related inquiries and ensure alignment with project goals.
Process Optimization and Innovation:
- Identify inefficiencies in the estimation process and propose improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Implement advanced estimation tools and methodologies to streamline workflows and improve precision.
- Stay updated on market trends, industry practices, and material pricing to maintain competitive cost estimates.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure cost estimates align with industry standards, project specifications, and organizational guidelines.
- Perform quality checks on estimates to ensure accuracy and completeness before submission.
- Support internal and external audits related to cost estimation and budgeting.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Strong expertise in estimation principles, cost analysis, and budgeting techniques.
- Advanced understanding of engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., Primavera, CostX, or equivalent) and spreadsheet tools such as Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of construction materials, labor costs, and equipment pricing in relevant industries.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to manage complex estimation tasks effectively.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
- Certification or advanced training in cost estimation or project management is desirable.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in estimation or related fields.
- Proven ability to manage complex estimation projects and provide accurate cost assessments.
Key Focus Areas:
- Process Control in Drilling, Refining, and Extraction: Leading the estimation of costs for process control systems in drilling, refining, and extraction operations, ensuring accurate budgeting for equipment, materials, and labor across large-scale projects.
- SCADA Systems for Pipeline Management: Overseeing the estimation for SCADA systems, including evaluating system requirements, labor, materials, and integration costs for pipeline management projects.
- Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Managing the estimation process for safety and emergency shutdown systems, ensuring that all aspects such as equipment, installation, testing, and maintenance are considered in the project costs.
- Environmental and Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that cost estimates reflect the necessary environmental and regulatory compliance factors, such as permits, certifications, and sustainable practices, while working to optimize project budgets.
- Risk Assessment and Cost Optimization: Identifying potential risks and inefficiencies in estimation processes, suggesting cost-saving opportunities, and improving the accuracy and efficiency of cost estimations for complex projects.
Tools and Technologies:
- Proficiency in estimation software such as CostX, Primavera, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and data analysis tools is an advantage.
