Job Title: Estimation Engineer
Job Summary:
The Estimation Manager is responsible for overseeing the preparation and validation of accurate cost estimates for complex and large-scale projects. This role involves leading a team of estimation engineers, managing vendor and client relationships, optimizing estimation workflows, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry standards. The Estimation Manager plays a strategic role in budgeting, forecasting, and driving innovations in cost estimation processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Manage and mentor a team of junior, mid-level, and senior estimation engineers, fostering professional growth and ensuring high performance.
- Define team goals, allocate tasks, and monitor progress to ensure timely and accurate delivery of cost estimates.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the team in handling complex estimation challenges.
Strategic Planning and Operations:
- Develop and implement strategies to improve estimation accuracy, efficiency, and consistency across all projects.
- Oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates, ensuring they align with project requirements and client expectations.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align estimation strategies with overall project and organizational objectives.
Cost Estimation Oversight:
- Review and validate detailed cost breakdowns, proposals, and bid documents prepared by the team.
- Ensure estimates account for all project aspects, including materials, labor, equipment, and contingencies.
- Analyze market trends and historical data to provide realistic and competitive cost assessments.
Vendor and Client Engagement:
- Manage relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Engage with clients during pre-bid and post-bid meetings to address cost-related queries and negotiations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for estimation-related matters with internal and external stakeholders.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all estimates comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational guidelines.
- Conduct quality checks and audits on estimates to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Lead the team in preparing audit-ready documentation for internal and external reviews.
Process Optimization and Innovation:
- Evaluate existing estimation workflows and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and accuracy.
- Introduce advanced tools, technologies, and methodologies for cost estimation, such as AI-driven forecasting or integrated ERP systems.
- Stay updated on emerging trends, pricing fluctuations, and best practices to maintain competitive and accurate estimates.
Budgeting and Resource Management:
- Manage estimation department budgets, including software, training, and personnel costs.
- Ensure efficient resource allocation and utilization across multiple projects.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Advanced knowledge of estimation principles, methodologies, and cost analysis techniques.
- Expertise in reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., CostX, Primavera, or equivalent) and advanced spreadsheet tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
- Strong understanding of market dynamics, including material costs, labor rates, and equipment pricing.
- Analytical and decision-making skills to evaluate complex cost data and provide actionable insights.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
- Advanced certifications in cost estimation, project management (e.g., PMP), or business administration are highly desirable.
Key Focus Areas:
- Process Control in Drilling, Refining, and Extraction: Overseeing the estimation of process control systems for large-scale drilling, refining, and extraction projects, ensuring comprehensive, accurate, and optimized budgeting for all phases of project execution.
- SCADA Systems for Pipeline Management: Managing the estimation and cost forecasting for SCADA system projects, ensuring that all technical and operational requirements are met while maintaining alignment with overall project budgets and timelines.
- Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Directing the estimation of safety and emergency shutdown systems, ensuring accurate cost projections for system design, implementation, and compliance with global safety standards.
- Environmental and Regulatory Compliance: Leading cost estimations related to environmental and regulatory compliance, ensuring all necessary permits, certifications, and mitigation measures are factored into project budgets while maintaining compliance with applicable standards.
- Strategic Planning and Budget Management: Developing long-term cost strategies, managing resource allocation, and ensuring that project budgets align with organizational goals. Proactively identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and compliance.
- Cross-Functional Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement: Leading estimation teams, coordinating with senior leadership, project managers, and external stakeholders to align cost estimation strategies with business objectives, while ensuring effective communication and collaboration across teams.
- Continuous Improvement and Risk Management: Driving process improvements in estimation methods, identifying and managing project risks, and implementing strategies for mitigating cost overruns or delays in project execution.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in estimation or related fi in a melds, with at least 3-5 yearsanagerial role.
- Proven track record of managing teams and delivering cost estimates for large-scale projects.
Tools and Technologies:
- Advanced proficiency in estimation tools such as CostX, Primavera, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and data analytics tools for cost tracking and forecasting.
